Thorold, Ontario (June 23) – As DIRTcar Sportsman Race Teams were preparing for the 2nd stop of the 2008 Lucas Oil Shoot Out presented by Dirt Track Digest.com pit-side, Merrittville Speedway’s front stretch provided the stage for the most noteworthy sponsorship announcement in the 57 year history of the Thorold facility Saturday June 21st.
Lucas Oil was announced as a multi-level sponsor covering both Saturday Night Stock Car and Tuesday Night Kart Racing Programs and track co-owner Pete Bicknell’s 358 Modified Race Team.
“We were very excited to have had Steve Snowden and Lucas Oil come to us just three short years ago with the idea of the Lucas Oil Shoot Outs for Sportsman and 358 Modifieds” exclaimed (Merrittville GM) Erica Bicknell, “In a relatively short period of time … Steve and Lucas Oil have been an integral part of local Dirt Racing and we are excited that they will remain a part of Merrittville well into the future … this is our biggest sponsorship announcement ever, to have such a prestigious company like Lucas step it up puts us to another level.”
Merrittville Speedway will now present it’s 5 division Lucas Oil Weekly Racing Series program that features the L. St. Amand Enterprises 358 Modifieds, Original Pizza Logs Sportsman, Hoosier Stocks, Turn 4 Collision 4 Cylinders and of course the Lucas Oil Open Wheel Lites. Tuesday Nights, the Lucas Oil Weekly Kart Racing Series will feature its 6 divisions as well.
Race fans and Race Teams can log onto www.merrittvillespeedway.com each week to learn more about the week’s Lucas Oil Featured Product and at the track can look to the Lucas Oil Live Leaderboard for race information for those divisions that run the AMB transponders.
“It’s a big announcement for us at Lucas Oil as well … dirt track racing has quite a presence in the area and with Merrittville’s rich history - it’s a great way to get our name and products out to the customer.” stated Snowden. “Before we got involved with the Shoot Out,” admits Snowden, “to be honest – I wasn’t all that familiar with dirt … but eventually I became a huge fan … I feel real dirtie … to borrow some words from dirt track digest.com!”
After the announcement, Pete Bicknell’s L. St. Amand Enterprises 358 Modified was unveiled with it’s new Lucas Oil colors and logos.
Team Lucas Oil also welcomed it’s newest member as Adam Leslie (Lucas Oil Open Wheel Lite), Rob Disher and Jason Fontaine (Hoosier Stocks) have enjoyed support from Lucas Oil for a number of seasons.

We have enjoyed working with Peter, Erica and the track management team … they are great promoters and very accommodating partners … Thank you”.
