Gage Morin writes history at Edelweiss Speedway

Cantley, PQ – Friday June 27, 2008 – Martin Bélanger - Even though the Speedway had a violent thunderstorm around suppertime, the promoters decided to go ahead with the program which included all classes and the 3rd race of the Gilles Masson Pro-Stock Series on Industries CD night.

Mark Therrien took the early lead in the 30-lap Modified feature race when an accident occurred in turn one and caution came out. Therrien kept the lead and Gage Morin did a great move to grab second followed by Nicolas Vaillant. Morin was now on the backbumper of Therrien with 5 laps down with Brian McDonald now in third. Pierre Dagenais brought the yellow on lap 8 with problems. On the following green, Therrien is still in front but it`s Doiron that has a good start and he takes second. Morin takes the lead on Therrien when an accident occurs on lap 15. Morin has a good start with Joel Doiron in second and McDonald in third. Morin got a commanding lead when Philippe Landry takes third on lap 20. Caution comes out lap 21 for Nicolas Vaillant who spun out in turn 3. Morin led the field on the green with Dagenais now in third. Morin got another great lead and lead the final laps to win his first ever feature at Edelweiss. He is also the youngest driver to win a feature race at 15 years old, Joel Doiron, Pierre Dagenais, Philippe Landry followed him and Jessica Zemken completed the top 5. Mark Therrien and Joel Doiron won the heats.

In the 20-lap Pro-Stock, Denis Gauvreau grabs the early lead for the first 3 laps when yellow comes out. On the green, Gauvreau keeps the lead when Stéphane Lebrun take the second spot on lap 6 while Gauvreau has complete straightaway lead over the rest of the cars. Alain Proulx spins out on lap 12 and the yellow is back on the field. Gauvreau led the final laps to win his second feature of the season over Ghyslain Valade and Stéphane Lebrun. Denis Gauvreau had a perfect night as he was the winner in the qualifier.

Alex Gagnon was the early leader in the 15-lap Semi-Pro feature race and led the first lap when an accident occurred in turn 3. On the following green, Daniel Guindon took the lead after a good battle with Gagnon with Sébastien Bigras in third. A good fight for second spot between Gagnon and Bigras, when the yellow came for Brian Rochon on the fifth lap. Guindon took a good lead when Mark Trudeau had problems on lap 7 and the caution went out. Guindon got another good start with Bruno Boivin now in third. The top 6 cars were in great battles for positions when Brian Rochon brought the yellow with 3 laps to go. Guindon led the final 3 laps to win his first feature of the season in front of Gagnon and Boivin who completes the podium. Alex Gagnon and Nico Leblanc won the qualifiers.

In the 12-lap 4 cylinders feature race, Alex Pilon took the lead and he`s followed closely by Jean-Marc Larose. Larose took the lead on the second lap when Pilon goes too high. Bernard passed Pilon for second on the seventh lap. Larose loses control on the last lap and Bernard is the new leader and wins his fifth feature of the season, Pilon and Martin Lagacé completes the podium. Alexandre Pilon won the heat race

Christian Pronovost took the early lead in 15-lap feature race but his father Dean passed him and Canadian Mod-Lite Champ Paul Klager followed Pronovost in second. Both Pronovost and Klager got quickly away from the rest of the field. Klager used the outside lane to pass Pronovost for the lead on lap 7. The first caution came out for Dave Bell who visited the exterior of the track on lap 13. Klager really showed everybody why he is Canadian Champion as he dominated the feature and won it, he was followed by Dean Pronovost and Christian Pronovost. Dean Pronovost won the qualification.

Another great night of racing, the track was tacky and fast and it gave some great racing in every feature. One of the biggest show of the year next week with the presentation of the first edition of the Simone 50 with a 50-lap Syracuse Qualifier Modified Feature race plus the second edition of the Street Stock Challenge with 35 laps for Semi-Pro. It will also be a fundraiser for the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
