BECCA ANDERSON TAKES BAR'S LEAKS SPRINTER TO URC VICTORY LANE SATURDAY
NIGHT AT DELAWARE INTERNATIONAL
DELMAR, DE Becca Anderson of Houston, DE scored a popular victory
winning the 25 lap Rislone URC Sprint Car Series feature event on
Saturday night at the Delaware International Speedway. Becca is no
stranger to the URC victory lane as this win bumps her career total to
nine. After touring with the nationally known World of Outlaws sprint
series, Anderson returned to URC in 2007 to drive the Jimmy Martin owned
#17. This is their first career win as a team the first career URC
victory for the Bar's Leaks sponsored sprint car. Anderson took the
lead on lap five and for most of the race, was clearly in control. In
the closing ten laps, Chris Coyle and point leader Curt Michael were
close in the chase. A late race caution brought the powerful Valley
Forge Inc 5G to the rear bumper of Anderson. A fast break at the drop
of the green flag and Anderson was off and running with Curt Michael in
the hunt for the final five laps. Anderson took the win with a
comfortable margin and the crowd went wild as Anderson took the checker
flag in her home state.
This event was also part of the Taylor & Messick Delaware State Sprint
Series with twenty-eight cars turning out for the show. Heat race
victories went to rookie driver Chuck Palmucci, Mares Stellfox and
Becca Anderson as Rory Janne won the Don Ott sponsored "B" Main.
A field of twenty-four cars started the Rislone URC sprint feature with
rookie driver Chuck Palmucci setting the pace for the first four laps.
On lap five, Becca Anderson launched the Bar's Leaks sprinter to the
front of the pack and ran to hide from the rest of the field. The first
caution was displayed on lap six when Rory Janne spun in turn four. On
the restart, Anderson set the pace with Chris Coyle in the BPG sponsored
sprinter in second and point leader Curt Michael now racing in third
after starting tenth. Palmucci and Ed Aikin made up the top five.
The top five remained unchanged until lap sixteen when Davey Sammons
powered the Palladino sprinter into the fifth spot. The leaders were
now in lapped traffic and Chris Coyle reduced the big lead once held by
Anderson. Curt Michael was also on a charge and on lap nineteen he
passed Coyle for second. As the field passed on lap twenty, Anderson
and Michael were at the front with Coyle third, Davey Sammons now fourth
and Palmucci fifth. Just outside the top five was the "Jersey Jet" JJ
Grasso, now racing in sixth. Grasso was the URC feature winner the
prior week at New Egypt.
With just four laps remaining. The green flag fell and Anderson powered
away from the rest of the field. Michael continued to look for the fast
groove but in the meantime, Anderson was building a comfortable lead.
As the checker flag fell, Anderson took the win with Curt Michael
second, Chris Coyle third, Davey Sammons fourth and JJ Grasso fifth.
Chuck Palmucci delivered an outstanding sixth place finish with Dave
Ely, Ed Aikin, Kramer Williamson (driving the Elmer Stoltzfus #00) and
Kyle Purks made up the top ten.
