20TH ANNUAL MITCH SMITH MEMORIAL JULY 4
MECHANICSBURG, PA -- Williams Grove Speedway will host the crown
jewel of Pennsylvania Sprint Speed Week on Friday evening, July 4, with
the running of the Mitch Smith Memorial presented by The Firm of Colgan
Marzzacco.
A spectacular fireworks display will follow the night's racing program.
Once again the Mitch Smith Memorial is the richest event of the
8-race speed fest sponsored by Cindy Rowe Auto Glass.
The 30-lap feature will pay $10,000 to win.
Not only will the Mitch Smith Memorial carry points toward the
Williams Grove Speedway and Speed Week championships, it will also award
points for the Diamond Series championship.
The Diamond Series consists of several special events at Williams
Grove and offers a separate payoff at season's end.
The Dillsburg law firm of Colgan Marzzacco is making its entry into
sprint car racing in a big way with the sponsorship of this event.
Colgan Marzzacco has also assumed sponsorship of the remaining Diamond
Series events including the Jack Gunn Memorial on August 15 and the Twin
20s on August 29.
The July 4 event will begin with qualifying at 7:45.
Heats and a B-main will fill the feature lineup for the Mitch Smith
Memorial.
A strong field is expected for the richest unsanctioned race on the
Williams Grove schedule.
Fred Rahmer and Lance Dewease, the career win leaders at the Grove,
are the only 4-time winners of the Mitch Smith Memorial. Defending
champion Greg Hodnett can match their win totals for this event with a
victory on July 4.
Mitch Smith, a first ballot Hall of Famer from Linglestown, Pa.,
was one of the all-time greats of Central Pennsylvania sprint car racing.
