BILL MYERS WINS THUNDERCAR FEATURE BEFORE RAINS CLAIM THE REST OF THE SHOW AT TRI-CITY SPEEDWAY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FRANKLIN, PA ... Bill Myers of Seneca, Pa., won the rain delayed Thundercar feature before rains invaded Tri-City Speedway on Sunday night causing another rainout at the Venango County half-mile oval.
Despite afternoon rains to the north and south of the track, none of the rain hit the track throughout the day. Fans and race teams filed in, and the racers were able to run their annual Fourth of July Parade Salute to the Fans during the opening ceremonies. Dark clouds loomed overhead as the Thundercar feature ran non-stop. The first Pro Stock heat race was on the track when the weather hit. Unfortunately, with the radar showing more rain on the way, the tough decision was made to call the show.
It was the fourth rainout of the season in nine scheduled events at Tri-City. Other tracks in the region are also suffering from poor weather. Mercer Raceway Park lost seven of 14 shows this season due to rain.
"This year's weather has been tough on track owners," said Tri-City Co-Promoter Mike Graham. "All the area tracks have suffered from problems with the economy in general, and rainy weather only adds to our woes. It's also tough on the race teams and fans that have to travel to races only to get rained on. Hopefully, the weather will start to cooperate soon."
Bill Myers of Seneca, Pa., captured the first Thundercar feature of the night. Driving his R.K. Virgile Scrap Metal/Corner Pocket Bar/Color Tek Chevrolet No. 43M, Myers took the lead at the start of the 12-lap event, which was rain delayed from June 8th, and held off the stout charges of Chadd Uber in lapped traffic to capture his second win of the season. It was Myers' eighth career win tying him for fourth on the overall win list with Don Blake Jr.
"I have to thank Mike Klapec and his team for helping me fix this car after the wreck two weeks ago," said Myers, who celebrated the victory in the CSOnline Autograph Alley. "You have to know how to run on a wet track to race tonight. I saw Chadd's bumper under me at one point, and we just raced the lapped traffic and held him off.""
Myers slipped under polesitter Cody Manners to take the lead off turn four at the completion of the first circuit. Uber moved into second quickly thereafter and gave chase to Myers. As the field entered lapped traffic with only two laps to go, Uber nearly made a pass under Myers in turn three. Myers held him off and weaved his way through lapped traffic.
At the finish, Myers was the winner over Uber, Manners, Kenny Alcorn and Greg Myers.
Rain checks from Sunday's races may be used for the July 6 or 13 races. The rain checks from June 22 can only be used on July 6. None of the rain checks from June 22 may be used on Aug. 10, which is the raindate for the kid's bike races.
As a result of the rainout, several events at the track were rescheduled. The first Detroit Iron Pro Stock Series event of the season will now be run on July 20th. The Edward Jones Fireworks Extravaganza will be held on July 6th.
Next Sunday July 6th, Buyer's Fair and Pennzoil Present Five-Star Racing featuring the Engles Trucking DIRTcar Big Block Modifieds, 4 Your Car Connection FASTRAK Late Models, RPM Auto Sales/Sherry Shawgo Real Estate E Mods, E.F. Rogers Plumbing & Heating Pro Stocks and Klapec Auto Body Thundercars. The E Mods will run their rain delayed race from June 8th first on the card as well as their second Welding Technologies E Series race of the season. Rounding out the show will be the Edward Jones Fireworks Extravaganza. Gates open at 4 p.m. and racing starts at 6 p.m. Adult grandstand admission will remain at $11 with students (13-15) at $6 and children 12 and under admitted free. It will also be Scout Night at the track, and all Boy and Girl Scouts in uniform will receive free grandstand admission.
