THE LUCAS OIL EMPIRE SUPER SPRINTS AND FIREWORKS JOIN REGULAR SHOW THIS SUNDAY AT UTICA - ROME SPEEDWAY

VERNON , NY- The unofficial halfway point of the 2008 Utica-Rome Speedway season comes this Sunday, July 6, with the traditional holiday appearance of the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints. The 358-Modifieds, Sportsman, Pro Stocks, and Pure Stocks will also be in action, and when the racing is over, fireworks will light up the sky over the speedway to celebrate Independence Day. Gates open at 2:30 p.m. with racing going off at 5 p.m.

So far this season, three drivers have dominated victory lane in the 358-Modified division. Pat Ward has taken four wins so far, with Stewart Friesen and Willy Decker each taking two wins apiece but there have many drivers that are close stealing the win away from the top three. Mitch Gibbs, Paul Kinney, Bobby Varin, Paul Jensen, Gus Schmidt, AJ Romano, and Jim Davis are just a few of the drivers hoping to wrestle a win away.

Former 358-Modified regular Jason Barney grabbed his first ever Lucas Oil ESS feature win on Memorial Day Weekend, besting a stellar field of 360 sprinters. Barney hopes to find that magic again this coming weekend, but Steve Poirier is the man to beat in the tough ESS tour as he has taken four of the last five events run.

Brad Alger, fresh off a win this past weekend, looks to fend of the rest of the Sportsman field as he pushes to win his first ever Utica-Rome Speedway championship. In the Pro Stocks, Jim Normoyle also looks to add his name to the champions list for the first time while Russ Marsden again is atop the Pure Stock rankings.

A fireworks display will light up the sky as Utica-Rome Speedway honors our country’s independence.

Utica-Rome Speedway is located just minute from the New York State Thruway in Vernon NY . Information on the “Action Track of the East” can be found at www.uticaromespeedway.com or by calling the speedway office at (315) 829-4557.
