“ CAT TRACKS”
Starring Rob Curtis and The Curtis Race Team
It was a “Story Book” ending to the “Lou Blaney Tribute” Modified as Rob Curtis captured an emotional victory at the Sharon Speedway on Saturday, June 28th. The final event in which the red and white #10 replaced the familiar white, yellow and blue #86 saw a very determined Curtis work his way from the fourth starting position to capture a hard fought victory. It was a fitting “Tribute to A Living Legend, Lou Blaney”!!
“Team Crew Chief Rob McElhaney spearheaded the idea to replace the familiar OhioCAT/ HRE/ Troyer colors with the red and white Blaney paint scheme that Lou had used throughout his illustrious career. Myself and everyone on the Curtis Team wanted to do something special to honor one of the best Sprint and Modified drivers to ever get behind the wheel. Lou Blaney is my idol and his guidance and knowledge has been a tremendous asset to me,” stated Curtis.
The 25 lap feature event found Rob starting in the fourth position. The first caution flew on lap six and the OhioCAT machine had worked its way to the second spot by that time. The ensuing restart would find Rob passing race leader Brad Rapp by lap seven. Rob then weathered two more cautions before collecting his first win of the 2008 season!!!
In Victory Lane a teary eyed Rob then emerged to a loud cheer of approval. “Everyone on the Curtis Race Team simply wanted to put a smile on Lou’s face when we started this project; tonight I think we accomplished that goal. I also need to thank all of the firms and individuals who assisted us in making this car a reality. This victory is for Lou!!”
“In addition I also need to thank Ken Taylor and everyone at OhioCAT as they came on board with the Curtis Race Team in January. We are definitely dedicated to getting OhioCAT the recognition they deserve. Their staff is terrific to work with and we look forward to seeing them at the Sharon Speedway in the near future. This is also our first victory for K&N Performance, Auto Meter Gauges, Greenville Auto Supply, Crow Enterprizes, Intercomp and Hyperco. Each of these firms has provided the Curtis Race Team with some of the highest quality products currently available and we sincerely appreciate their assistance. We also acquired two new marketing partners this week, Johnson Auto Body and Racing Fans Direct (www.racingfansdirect.com) and would like to welcome them to the Curtis Race Team,” stated Curtis.
The win this weekend allowed Rob to move from fifth to third place in the season long points chase.
Crew Chief Rob McElhaney and the rest of the team will spend this week preparing the OhioCAT, HRE/Troyer for the Fourth of July weekend. The Curtis Race Team will be looking to make it “Two-In- A-Row” as they return to racing action at the Sharon Speedway on Saturday, July 5th.
The entire Curtis Race Team would also like to thank Ohio CAT, Greenville Gun and Supply, Lias Tire, Greenville Auto Supply, Denny’s Restaurant, McCann’s Powder Coating, Open Signs, Beto’s Pizza, Intense Fabrication, Hine Racing Engines, Winner’s Circle Motorsports Marketing and The Body Shop (Jamestown, PA) for their continued support.
