“Ohsweken Flyer” Flyer Captures Southern Ontario Sprint Win at The New
Humberstone Speedway on Port Colborne Pirates Night.

The “Ohsweken Flyer” Glenn Styres captured his second win with the Southern
Ontario Sprints this past Sunday night. In the victory lane speech Styres
stated “This track is a dream to drive, Humberstone Speedway is my new
favorite track”. The early leader was the 10 of Bob Crawford who spun out
in front of the field on lap 1 but with him spinning out he also took the 5
of Keith Demptser, current SOS points leader, with him, sending them both
tail. Lap 2 is when Styres took over with the 30 of Adam West right behind
him. Both drivers having the work past lap traffic by lap 5. The New
Humberstone Favorite Rob Pietz also had to battle his way to the front and
managed to capture a solid 4th place finish. Scary moment on lap 16 when the
20 car of Jeff Daniels went a little high out of the corner hopped on front
wall and flipped along front stretch, the red flag was brought out and he
was checked over by Ontario Motorsports Rescue. Daniels was able to get out
of the car and take the long walk back to the pits. (Heat Winners were
Warren Mahoney, Keith Demptser and Glenn Styres)

The New Humberstone is always proud when a racer receives their first
victory on Sunday nights; last Sunday night it was Carey Gore who received
his first win ever in the Ministock division. Gore who led all 15 laps with
some very intense competition behind him, current point’s leader Garnet
Wilson in the 71 and 2nd in points James Small in the 10s. As Gore distanced
himself in the lead position, leaving the battle for 2nd place between
Wilson, Small and the 16 of Rob Goulding. By lap 14 Gore having to work
very gingerly around lap traffic and doing so safely. Gore on victory lane
was in shock, and exclaimed “I can’t believe it”, also thanking Rob Murray,
his son Damian and wife. On victory lane the crowd also learned that this
will be Gore last race as he is having surgery tomorrow and will be giving
his car to another driver to race at Humberstone. Top 5 were Carey Gore,
James Small, Garnet Wilson, Rob Goulding, Matt Deschamps.(Heat Winners were
Rob Goulding and Carey Gore)

There was another first at The New Humberstone Speedway; B.J. captured his
first win of the 2008 season. It was looking to be a long 25 laps, within
the first 3 laps there were 3 cautions causing race director Bob Davidson to
make the restarts single file. While the 77 of Willard was out front,
another younger driver was right behind him the 6 of Mat Williamson who ran
a solid race in 2nd place. The P38 of Rob Pratt trying to find bite along
the top side and going a little too high in turn 4 and losing two spots.
Sending Pratt to battle it out with Mike Bowman for the 6th place spot. In
the 3rd place in was Jeff Leggett having an excellent race. Top 5 were - B.J
Willard, Mat Williamson, Jeff Leggett, Nick Cupolo, and Tyler McPherson.
(Heat Winners were Rob Pratt, Greg Panunte and B.J Willard)

Doug Banner claimed his 2nd victory of the 2008 season. Banner who lead the
entire 15 lap event in the Niagara Auto Sales Pro 4 truck division. By lap 5
the 29 of Banner was lapping the last place car. The 79 of Rick Book
finishing a solid 2nd place finish, while the 7 of Hilary Haegens had a
great racing finishing in 3rd place. By lap 7 Book and Banner were neck and
neck, Banner able to find bite on the outside, Book trying to find the same
bite, but unable too. At lap 11 top 3 cars all had a ½ a track lead over the
4th pace Scott Sherk. Top 5 were Doug Banner, Rick Book, Hilary Haegens, and
Scott Sherk. Heat Winner was Doug Banner

6TH time is a charm for “Silly” Billy Hogue in the Brian’s Tire Repair
Streetstock division. Hogue ho captured his 6th victory in the 2008 season,
beating out Rick Beales in the 117 TC decaled racecar. Beales who lead the
race for 6 laps before Hogue managed to squeeze his nose in the bottom and
opened up spacing for him to take advantage of. The M1 and the 117 having to
battle for 2nd with Beales ending up the spot. A caution on lap 16 was
something that Hogue not wanting to see, and also Shayne Pierce who was
involved in the caution. 31B of Barry Blanchard was sent tail for the turn 4
incident. Top 5 were Bill Hogue, Rick Beales, Brad Sheehan, Jason Fontaine,
