NEXT “WEDNESDAY” TRIPLEHEADER JULY 9 AT ANDERSON;
ROBERTSON, YOUNG, ARMSTRONG & RAIN GRAB “REGIONALS”
USAC’s Wednesday night “Open Wheel Extravaganzas” resume July 9 at Anderson (Ind.) Speedway featuring the Regional, Kenyon and Indiana Ford Focus Midget Series.
Travis Young (Regional Midgets), Kyle Hamilton (Indiana Ford Focus) and Caleb Armstrong (Kenyon Midgets) are the latest point leaders entering the Anderson program.
James Robertson of Indianapolis, Ind. earned his first victory of the 2008 season Wednesday night in the 30-lap “Open Wheel Extravaganza” Regional Midget feature at Mount Lawn Speedway in New Castle, Ind. Robertson passed Young on lap 14 and led the rest of the way in the Clay Hargitt Maurer Entertainment Beast/Ford. Young finished second ahead of Dakoda Armstrong, Alison MacLeod and Dallas Melby.
Dalton Armstrong of New Castle, Ind. won the 30-lap Kenyon Midget race in his Bungee North America/Anderson Grain Yamaha. Caleb Armstrong, Grant Galloway, Taylor Ferns and Mike Terry Jr. rounded out the “top-five.” Welch led the first two laps, while Wimmenauer paced the next 23 before Armstrong went to the front for the final five.
Tyler Cottongim of Avon, Ind. won the 30-lap Ford Focus Feature in his O’Kelly’s Restaurant Equipment Stealth, beating Alison MacLeod, Eric Fehrman, Hamilton and Andy Nock. Hamilton led the first six laps, Cottongim led the next 12 and Nock led seven before Cottongim regained the lead for good on lap 26.
