By: James Carver

Laurens County Speedway roared back to life this past Saturday night hitting the half way point of the 2008 season with action packed racing awaiting the fans. The Coca-Cola Super Late Model division had 11 cars sign in for the night’s events. Heat winners Larry Timms and Brett “The Jet” Williamson lined up on row 1. Billy Rushton and Petey Ivey shared row 2 while Tony Quarles and Colby Cannon made up row 3. Larry Timms made use of his pole position as he shot out of turns 3 and 4 to take the lead down the front stretch with Brett Williamson falling into 2nd. Unfortunately Terry Bullard got a little loose in turns 1 and 2 and spun it around. The 2nd attempted start saw Larry Timms make a perfect start while Brett Williamson had to fight off Billy Rushton. Trouble occurred once again as contact was made in turns 1 and 2 resulting in Mike Ashley spinning collecting Chris Lyons and Terry Bullard. The 3rd attempted start once again saw Larry Timms make a perfect start as he jumped into the lead with Brett Williamson falling in line in 2nd. Petey Ivey was able to pull ahead of Billy Rushton on the outside for 3rd but found Rushton fighting right back for the position. Ivey would get a little high in turns 3 and 4 allowing Billy Rushton to slide through. At the end of lap 1 the top 5 was Larry Timms, Brett Williamson, Billy Rushton, Petey Ivey, and Tony Quarles. Timms immediately began to pull away while Brett Williamson came under pressure from Billy Rushton for 2nd. Billy pulled the pass off coming out of turns 3 and 4 to take the spot. Petey Ivey immediately applied pressure on Brett for 3rd while Colby Cannon battled Tony Quarles for the 5th spot. Colby Cannon pulled the pass off on lap 4 while in turns 1 and 2 while Petey Ivey passed Brett Williamson for 3rd. Williamson would continue to experience handling problems as he slowly dropped through the field while Colby Cannon and Frank Coates fought their ways up through the field. Up front, it was all Larry Timms (Hodges) as the 2006 track champ cruised to take his 1st Coca-Cola Super Late Model feature win of the season. Billy Rushton (Hodges) finished 2nd, Petey Ivey (Union) in 3rd, Colby Cannon (Hodges) was 4th, and Frank Coates (Hodges) rounded out the top 5.
