25th Anniversary Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints Celebrate the Nation’s Birthday at Can-Am and Utica-Rome.
GSSI Independence Holiday Clash to offer $1,000 point fund: SUNY Canton A-Mains to pay $2,000 to win at both events!!
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – After a weekend off, the stars and cars from the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints are ready to showcase some speed and excitement this weekend at Can-Am and Utica-Rome. The 25th Anniversary Tour will help celebrate the 4th of July weekend with two SUNY Canton A-Mains which offer $2,000 to win each.
To help sweeten the pot, GSSI will be offering a $1,000 point fund which is open to all competitors that enter the two events. The top five drivers in points will take a slice of the $1,000 pie which is backed by Global Safety Source, Inc.
Coming into the weekend the question that is out on the table is there a team that can out race Steve Poirier? The defending ESS champ is on a tear winning the last two events and four out of five to hold the top spot in the Lucas Oil points. While Poirier is on a run for the ages, two-time champ Lance Yonge has been keeping him in his sites by placing four runner-up finishes during the ’08 campaign.
These two will be in the pits on Saturday night at Can-Am Motorsports Park as Budweiser is bringing back the famed “Shootout”. A $2,000 to win event for the big blocks will share the card in what is one of the biggest events of the season at the LaFargeville oval. Other top stars expected will be Jeff Cook, whose sponsor Rt. 37 Building Supply will be picking up the tab for the Walt’s Hobby Dash for Cash, Alain Bergeron, Michael Parent, Justin Barger, Rick and April Wilson, Justin Harris, Doug Norrie, Russ Bennett and many, many more will fill the pit log.
The next night is down to Utica-Rome Speedway to continue the holiday tradition at Gene Cole’s half-mile. It’s the second of three visits and on the first trip back in May a solid field of 36 cars filled the pit area. Another big field is set with May winner Jason Barney, Tim Kelly, Brian McDonald, Lee Ladouceur, Bubby Kerrick, The GSSI backed sprinters of Tommy Wickham and Andy Noto, Normand Beaudreault, Gordy Button, whose sponsor TNT Trucking is backing the dash on this night, Doug Emery, Anthony Cain, Brandon Warner, Chuck Hebing, Bobby Magner and others will be on hand.
With the added point fund, over $24,000 in cash is being offered for the two events for the just the A-Main’s alone and one driver could take home over $4,500 with a sweep. This is one of the richest ESS weekend’s ever offered in the States.
Two fast, wide and multi-grooved ovals…A sprint car dream. Can-Am, Utica-Rome, the 25th Anniversary Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints are ready to invade your house. Not only will there be fireworks in the sky but on the track as well…Not only will it be wild, but it will be excitement guaranteed!!
