Redemption comes for JR Stewart by Route of I-96.
They say that if racing was easy everyone would be doing it. Well I have to respectfully disagree. There still would be people who wouldn’t want to get filthy working on a sprint car that runs on dirt. Luckily for JR and Ron they have a dedicated crew that doesn’t mind getting a little dirty.
Saturday evening the Hammons Motorsports team made the trip north to Ionia, Michigan for the final leg of the NRA-ASCS SOD Battle this time at I-96 Speedway. Having had previous success there JR was looking to shake off the recent bad luck. Starting seventh in his heat the plan was to get as many positions, and points, as possible to put himself into the top-eight re-draw. Running the bottom side of the track with the car very fast he battled with Dain Naida for the runner up spot for several laps. In the end he managed to hold down third in the final order making him the second highest points earner in the heats.
With the re-draw all said and done JR would line up outside of row three matching the car number on his top wing. He at first would keep the Hammons Motorsports entry on the top side but found very little grip so a move was made to the bottom where the car took off passing those in front of him. A few laps later while trying to get by Sean Robinson, Darren Long buzzed by on the outside showing JR the way around the track. Moving back up to the high side he began to reel the 7L back in but unfortunately ran out of time and finished up on the final step on the podium for the second time of the night. Another third place run was had moving him back up in the NRA Points Standings.
