Murphy leads both SMS and Bandit Series points race.
Santa Maria, CA 7-2-08...*Bandit Sprint Cars, D&S Automotive IMCA Modifieds, Factory Stocks, and Mini Stocks will all be in action Saturday night at Santa Maria Speedway.
*Clovis driver Peter Murphy is having quite a season to date, leading both the SMS Bandit championship and the Bandit Series point standings. Murphy leads Easton's Albert Pombo by 37 in local points and by 118 in the Series. Justyne Hamblin, of Hanford, is third locally, 71 points out of the lead and Rusty Carlile, of Bakersfield, runs third in Series points, 143 points behind the leader.
*Nipomo's Kenny Kirkpatrick is only 2 points in front of Santa Maria's Danny Lauer in their struggle for the IMCA Modified point lead. Santa Maria's Josh Vogt and Doug Thornton, fresh off his first feature victory in a number of years, are third and fourth, 22 and 23 points in arrears respectively. And fifth place Paul Terrones, of Lompoc, is 50 markers behind.
*The Factory Stock point leader, Kirk Morgan, leads three fellow Santa Maria drivers in the hunt for their championship. Morgan leads Michael Frazier by 52, Glen Sparks by 71, and Tim Bennett by 78. Sparks scored his first feature win of the season last weekend. Fifth place Mike Leland, of Atascadero, trails Morgan by 90 points.
*Arroyo Grande's Justin Crockett scored his first main event win of the season last Saturday to move into a tie for first place with Nipomo's Justin Marsh in the Mini Stock division. Third place Jeremy Heroux, of Nipomo, is 18 points behind the leaders and then there's another two-way tie between Santa Barbara's Ben Caswell and Lompoc's Jeff Biggs, who are 73 points in the red.
* Gates for Saturday night's event will open at 3:00 p.m., with racing at 6:00 p.m. Tickets will cost $15.00 for adults, $11.00 for seniors (65+), $5.00 for children six to twelve, with children five and under admitted free. Credit cards are not accepted.
