Herrington Motorsports: Weekend Report, June 27th & 28th
By Jim Clarke, Clarke Motorsports Communications
If winning a stock car race – at any level – was easy, everyone would want to do it, because it wouldn’t take any effort at all. That would please every racetrack promoter in the world, because their pit and garage areas would be full. Because it takes a special talent to drive a racecar, only a certain few are fortunate enough to be able to do it. 17 year-old Bobby Herrington of Elginburg, Ontario displayed a unique talent at a very early age. His success at the controls of a go-kart caused his family, friends, fans and sponsors to take notice. Eventually, he moved up through the ranks – graduating to a DIRTcar sportsman and now – to a 358 modified. The youngster competes weekly at Autodrome Edelweiss and Brockville Ontario Speedway against drivers more than twice his age and possessing a lifetime of racing experience.
Friday, June 27th: Autodrome Edelweiss
Every racecar driver has their ups and downs – their highs and lows – and Bobby Herrington is no exception. The Herrington team, proudly supported by Stover Bus Lines/Old Forester/Kingston Paint and Decorating/Corcoran Excavating/Independent Insurance and Investment Group-Marty Stover finished 5th in the first qualifying heat. Come feature time, the #25 2008 Bicknell could muster no better than 13th at the checkers. Bobby is currently 5th in DIRTcar 358 modified points at the Gatineau, Quebec area oval.
Saturday, June 28th: Brockville Ontario Speedway
Steady rains throughout the day caused Brockville to cancel their scheduled show for the first time this season. The track will be back in action Saturday, July 5th. Personally, Bobby Herrington is looking forward to the Thursday, July 10th Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series event. In 2007, he qualified for the 100 lap main event and at the time was the youngest driver in DIRTcar racing Northeast history to do so.
Boosting Bobby:
Bobby is one of 4 Kingston area residents in the voting for June’s Athlete of the Month in Kingston This Week. Ballots may be cast until Sunday, July 6th at the paper’s web-site www.kingstonthisweek.com
