SPORTSMAN 100 HEADLINES AIRBORNE HOLIDAY CARD
For Immediate Release AS-070202-1
Plattsburgh – The J&S Steel Sportsman will move from their customary 25-lap battles and have at it for 100 laps on Sample Lumber Night this Saturday, July 5, at Airborne Speedway. Seven Sportsman events have produced six different winners this season, including first ever victories for Ben Hough of Champlain and Tylor Terry of Morrisonville.
Only Bucko Branham, who began the year with two consecutive wins, has carried the checkered flag more than once. Branham leads Shawn Duquette in the Sportsman championship points chase 284-258. Toby Ebersole of Peru, the 2006 titleholder, sits third with 254 points. Duquette has yet to land in victory lane, but he has five top-5 finishes and last year won a 100-lap event on the Airborne half-mile.
Jason Bonnett of St Albans, VT, the defending Sportsman champion, will seek to stir up the points battle with a win Saturday after missing a pair of races due to prior commitments. Bonnett won a Sportsman 100 last August. Others likely contenders include feature winners Skip Liberty, Richie Turner and Larry Underwood, Plattsburgh drivers Chris Reeves and Brian Criss and Jamy Begor of Mooers.
The Ernie’s Tools Modifieds, Versatile Trailer Sales Renegades, NAPA Warriors and Monster Energy Bombers will also be in action.
“This is our second year as a race sponsor,” Sandy Sample said. “We’re pleased to be a part of local family entertainment that’s as well run and as much fun as Airborne.”
Grandstands open at 4 pm. Kiddie race car rides will precede the start of qualifying heats at 6 pm. Admission is $12/adults, $3/kids 6-12, children 5 and under admitted free, $25/family (2 adults, 2 kids). For additional information call 518-561-3208 or visit airborneparkspeedway.com.
