Hi everyone, here is an All Time winners list for the Georgie Stevenson Memorial race held at Big Diamond Raceway as well as a blurb from track stat guru Gary Lileck. My thanks to Gary for all his assistance throughout the season...
Chris
The Georgie Stevenson Memorial. The name says it all. When you win any race held on the night of this memorial race, you have earned a victory on a very special evening.
When I was a kid, I sat just behind Georgie and his family. Georgie was one of Big Diamond's most supportive fans. He loved the sport and idolized the drivers. I can remember Georgie Stevenson like it was just yesterday. He and I were only a few years apart in age, and we were both huge racing fans. I always recall him cheering for the #23B of Dennis Somers.
When I heard that Georgie had become ill with cancer, I was shocked. You would have never known that he was sick in the beginning. Georgie never let his illness get him down. As a matter of fact, he worked so hard in trying to help raise money for cancer research. Unfortunately, young Georgie Stevenson passed away at the age of 12. After Georgie's passing, we were missing that young energetic fan who sat by us each and every Friday night. We still miss this young fan today.
Big Diamond Raceway quickly began a memorial race in Georgie's honor. 2008 marks the 29th version of this classic event. Each year the Stevenson Memorial race takes a collection to help sick children. If there's one race that you can make this season, take time to drive to Forestville PA this Friday night. Join us as we honor Georgie Stevenson and all of our sick children. It's all about helping the kids. They are our future. Hope to see everyone at BDR this Friday July 4, 2008.
Thanks,BDR fan site admin,Gary Lileck
