Jerry Higbie Racing Update

Posted by Tom Ames | 07/04/08

NEWS FROM JERRY HIGBIE RACING GOSHEN, NY-- Jerry Higbie Racing UpdateBy Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media The past couple of weeks for Jerry Higbie Racing have produced a roller coaster of results for the Goshen, New York based racing team. The high point came a couple of weeks ago when Jerry Higbie raced to a solid third place finish at the Accord Speedway after starting the event from his 11th starting position. After a third place run in his heat race, Higbie lined up for the feature in 11th position. While he was bottled up in traffic early on in the event, Higbie soon broke free and found some racing real estate available to him on the top side of the raceway. Making tracks to the front, Higbie found leader Kevin Duryea in the middle of the racetrack and Andy Bachetti tossing his car from the top side in trying to wrestle the lead from Duryea. Higbie changed lanes with his Mid-City Transit Big Block machine and hit his marks on the lowside of the speedway. Moving closer to the racing action, Higbie had a birdseye view of the Duryea-Bachetti battle and was now in the three way pack racing for the win. Duryea held on for the win while Bachetti was in for the runnerup slot. Higbie was a close third and Danny Tyler was fourth. Rich Ricci Jr rounded out the top five running order. The following night at the Orange County Fair Speedway, Higbie felt confident of a another solid run and possibly a win if all went well. While coming through the close knit Modified field Higbie had a tire explode and with it causing damage to the Team Shaver 47 Modified machine. Higbie was credited with an 18th place for his evening's work. Last Friday night at the Accord Speedway, Higbie again had made his presence known early on in the event and while racing for position was pinched to the inside barrier and sustained enough damage to the signature numbered 97 to require wrecker service to remove the car from the raceway. Higbie was credited with a 21st finishing position in the unfortunate turn of events. The current points picture at Accord now has Andy Bachetti out front with 420 points. Rich Ricci Jr is second with 393. Modified Rookie talent Danny Tyler is currntly ranked third with 340 markers and Jerry Higbie is fourth with 334 points. The veteran John McGill currently holds down fifth place in the points chase with 328 points. As the chase for the crown takes shape, every feature event finishing position becomes important to those with aspirations to win the Modified title. Last Saturday night at the Orange County Fair Speedway, Jerry Higbie ran two features during the course of the evening. In the Modified portion, Higbie crossed the line in 8th spot in a solid run that was highlighted by Michael Storms first career Big Block Modified win at the historic facility. In the 358 Modified feature, Higbie was credited with a 9th place run. The Modified points picture at OCFS now has David Van Horn atop the charts with 366 points. Chuck McKee currently rests in second place with 342 points. Jerry Higbie is third with 340 points. Rookie Michael Storms has 320 points for fourth place and Jeff Hoetzler is holding on to fifth with an even 300 points. In the 358 Modified points chase, Tim Hindley is the leader with 216 points. Jerry Higbie is hot on his heels with 208 points. Craig Mitchell sits in third place with 172 points and Chuck Mckee is a few points behind in fourth with 166. Two points behind Mckee with 166 points is Johnny Guarino. This week will find the Higbie Racing Team once again heading to Accord for the Friday action and then back to Orange County Fair Speedway for the weekly Saturday night racing action. Higbie is hoping for another solid weekend of racing to keep pace with the top racers in the divisions he is racing. The tentative racing schedule for Jerry Higbie Racing has the team heading to Five Mile Point Speedway on Tuesday Night July 8th for the upcoming ROC event at Andy Harpell's racing playground in Kirkwood, New York Higbie's aggressive 2008 racing schedule will find him in the thick of the racing action as he prepares for his runs at the Accord Speedway and Orange County Fair Speedway Championships this year. Higbie will also be challenging for the ROC title. For the Accord and ROC events, Higbie will race the family owned signature numbered 97 cars and for his assault on OCFS and select WRG Series Races, Higbie will once again strap himself into the Team Shaver numbered 47 equipment as the Shaver Team will have two Big Block cars for Higbie to steer. Sponsorship for the Teams comes from a great group of loyal sponsors who have supported Higbie throughout his successful racing career. Mid-City Transit, Mr K's Carpet Service, Behrent's Speed Center, SKJ Towing and BadaBing Pizza have all lent their support to the 97 cars, and Beaverkill Trout Hatchery, Superior Building Supply and Woodburne Lawn & Garden lend their support to the Shaver Team. In addition to his Big Block rides, Higbie will be slipping behind the belts of the Affordable Transmission numbered 17 for a run at the 358 Small Block title at OCFS. Jerry Higbie Racing would like to thank the entire racing community for their support and well wishes as the team prepares for a great season in racing this year.
