A BUSY MONTH OF JULY STARTS OUT THIS SATURDAY AT FONDA

By: Ron Szczerba

FONDA , NY – After suffering the fifth rainout of the 2008 racing season last Saturday the Track of Champions will be back in action this Saturday, July 5 with another action packed “Feel the Thunder” event.

With only seven Saturday evening shows and one mid week show (August 5) left in the 2008 season at the Fonda Speedway before the break for the annual Fonda Fair drivers in all divisions who are after the 2008 Track Championships in all divisions know that the pressure is on for them to perform.

This Saturday at the Fonda Speedway there will be a regular show in all divisions on Tribute to the Past Night. The Northeast Vintage Dirt Modified Racing Club will also be on hand and the Pro Stock feature will be the re-scheduled Hondo Classic after being rained out last week. Starting time will be 6:00 p.m. Morris Auto Group and Snapple will sponsor the racing program.

The Fireworks display that was supposed to be set off last Saturday has been cancelled due to other commitments by the Fireworks Company and has been re-scheduled for Saturday, July 26.

Going into this Saturday Bobby Varin and Pat Ward are tied for the lead in Modified points while defending Track Champion Matt DeLorenzo is back in the fifth spot. Defending Track Champions David Towns (Sportsman), Kenny Gates (who was co-champion with Rob Yetman back in 2007 in the Pro Stock division), and Jeremy Cramer (IMCA) all lead in their respective divisions while Chuck McSpirit is the leader in Street Stock points.

To see the complete point standings you can go to the Fonda Speedway website www.fondaspeedway.com

Last year in the month of July at Fonda in the Modified division Varin and DeLorenzo both had two wins while Ronnie Johnson was sandwiched in between with one win. In the Sportsman division last year it was Towns leading the way with three wins in the month of July with Jeremy Wilder and Luke Munroe winning the other two feature events. For Wilder and Munroe it was their first career wins in the Sportsman division at Fonda.

In four Pro Stock feature events held last July at Fonda there were four different winners with Nick Stone, Chip Smith, Kenny Martin Jr., and Rob Yetman all taking victories while in the IMCA division Danny Ballard won twice with single event wins also going to Defending Track Champion Jeremy Cramer and George Catanzano. In the Street Stock division John Babcock (two wins), Defending Track Champion Rocky Warner, and Luke Horning all had feature event wins.

In special events at Fonda last July Danny Ody took his 100th overall career feature win in the Northeast Vintage Dirt Modified feature event while the Jack Lockhart Memorial Dash for Cash for non-winners in the Sportsman division went to Ricky Quick. Justin Barger won the Empire Super Sprint feature event while the Wilma Smith Memorial IMCA Dash for Cash was won by Beau Ballard.
