Felix Jr. Notches Career First Limited Sprint Victory, Sodeman and Doran Capture First 2008 Wins, Dellinger Repeats in Pure Stocks and E-Mods
Hartford, OH July 5, 2008 The Fourth of July celebration at the Sharon Speedway was highlighted by Mid-Season Championship races in all of the "Fantastic Five" divisions, Fireworks and the Bill Kirila Memorial. When the final checkered flag of the evening flew there were several new faces gracing the Hovis Auto and Truck Supply Victory Lane. Pittsburgh, PA driver Robert Felix Jr. made the long tow very worthwhile as he captured his career first Limited Sprint win while New Castle, PA driver Tim Doran captured his first win on the Sharon Speedway 3/8 mile configuration. Jack Sodeman Jr. picked up his first feature event of 2008 and "Double Duty" Alan Dellinger once again collected the Pure Stock and E-Mod main events.
An "Invert Four" redraw found Tim Doran and Brian Swartzlander leading the 24 car Gibson-Governor Insurance Agency Big Block Modified feature to the green flag. Doran immediately jumped into the lead with Swartzlander following behind. Doran would weather several cautions that would give Swartzlander additional opportunities to challenge for the top spot as he went on to collect his first feature win of 2008 and his first at Sharon Speedway since the racing surface was reconfigured. Swartzlander held on to the runner-up spot with current points leader Dave Murdick third. Rex King Jr. and Jim Weller Jr. completed the top five. Brad Rapp, Rob Kristyak, who came from the 19th starting spot, Del Rougeux Jr., Rob Curtis and Randy Brown completed the top ten.
Swartzlander, Curtis and Doran were victorious in the Gibson-Governor Modified heat events while Kristyak was the winner of the B-Main.
The 25-lap Warren Harley-Davidson 410 Sprint Feature saw a determined Jack Sodeman Jr. hold off the challenges of Roger Campbell to capture his first feature win of 2008. Sodeman jumped out to a considerable lead on the initial start. A lap six caution for the disabled sprinter of Nate Stein would place Clyde, OH driver Roger Campbell on Sodeman's rear bumper. The two drivers swapped the lead back and forth several times from lap 12 through lap 18 before Sodeman took over for good on lap 19. Sodeman weathered a final caution on lap 24 for the stopped car of Mike Kekich and held off the last lap challenge of Ed Lynch Jr. to pick up his first Sharon Speedway checkered flag of the season. Lynch Jr. held on for the runner-up spot with Kevin Schaeffer, Bob Felmlee and Broc Martin rounding out the top five. Campbell dropped back in the closing stages of the race to finish in the sixth spot with Shawn Minor, Chris Shuttleworth, Scott Bonnell and Gale Ruth Jr. rounding out the top ten.
Dan Shetler, Felmlee, Campbell and Schaeffer won the Warren Harley-Davidson 410 Sprint heat races with Todd Bauer picking up the win in the B-Main.
Jason Scoville and Robert Felix Jr. brought the Limited Sprints to the green flag for their 20 lap feature event. Second year competitor Scoville immediately shot into the lead and appeared to be on the way to capturing his second victory of the 2008 racing season when he spun on lap 18. Robert Felix Jr. inherited the lead and would battle defending divisional champion Guy Griffin in the final two laps of the feature event as he went on to capture his first ever feature victory. Griffin held on for the runner-up spot with Brandon Spithaler, Peter Miller III and Kyle Layton completing the top five.
Griffin and Spithaler brought home the wins in the Limited Sprint heat events.
"Double Duty" Alan Dellinger certainly lived up to his nickname as would capture his fourth Sharon Speedway victories in both the Tight-Seal Glass Block Pure Stock and Tom's Sewer and Drain Service E-Mod feature events. Youngster Matt Wagner led lap one of the 15 lap Pure Stock main event before Dellinger took over on lap two. Dellinger led the final 14 circuits to pick up yet another win. Charlie Jasinski had a solid second place run with Gary Robinson, Bruce Redman and Wagner completing the top five.
Robinson and Wagner were victorious in heat race action.
Dellinger's E-Mod feature victory came as a result of the misfortune of his car owner Dwayne Clay. Clay came from his ninth place starting position to overtake New Castle, PA veteran Bob McCann on lap seven. Clay was all alone in the front spot with McCann, Jack Young and Dellinger battling for the second spot. Clay appeared to be on his way to capturing the victory when Vince Crisanti's spin brought out the event's final caution. On the ensuing restart Clay bobbled which allowed Dellinger to take over the front spot. Dellinger picked up yet another E-Mod victory. Young held on for the runner-up spot with Jeff Sharp, McCann and Clay following.
Joe Gabrielson and Dellinger were victorious in the preliminary events.
