Weedsport, NY – July 6, 2008 – By Dan Kapuscinski, Cayuga County Fair Speedway PR and Promotions Coordinator
Buzzie Weber concluded the Cayuga County Fair in grand fashion by capturing the Pick-n-Pull Auto Parts Independence 201 Enduro at the Cayuga County Fair Speedway Sunday night. Weber bested a field of nearly 40 other competitors for the $1,000 pay day.
“That was sure a long race,” said Weber in victory lane. “We had some issues but never really skipped a beat. We ended up running much of the race in second gear because I had some shifting issues but it worked out for us.”
The 201-lap affair was split into three 67-lap segments. Weber led much of the event uncontested in his Mazda no. 24w machine. Consistency paid of for Weber as he was able to thread the needle through traffic lap after lap around the Weedsport oval.
A number of different drivers tried to contest Weber for the top spot but were unable to take it away. One of those was defending BattleKarz champion Bill Werner. Werner however ran into trouble and was not able to contend in the late stages.
The no. 36 of Kyle Stoltz and the no. 711 of Bruce Unger were Weber’s closest competition at the end of the 201-lap grind. Weber began to run out of fuel in the late stages, and it looked as though Stoltz might be able to make a run but it wasn’t meant to be.
Weber would go over the line with a healthy advantage on both Stoltz and Unger, as they streamed under starter Dave Farney’s duel checkered flags.
Stoltz earned $300 for second, while Unger took home $200 for his third place effort.
“I am absolutely beat,” said Weber. “I am glad this got over. Towards the end it started to run out of fuel. On the straights I was ok, but in the corners the fuel wouldn’t pick up. I had to back it way off towards the end.”
The evening was capped off with a beautiful fireworks display in the infield, which finished the hat trick for DIRTcar Northeast racing facilities. Rolling Wheels Raceway Park had fireworks Thursday night, followed by Canandaigua Speedway on Saturday night, and of course Cayuga County Fair Speedway Sunday.
Don’t forget the next Pick-n-Pull Auto Parts Enduro at Cayuga County Fair Speedway will be the “Goblin 200” on Saturday, October 25th. That event will have a rain date of October 26th.
The next Modified event at Cayuga County Fair Speedway will be next Sunday, July 13th with Bud Light Night at the Races presented by K&S Carwash. That night will also play host to Kid’s Fun Laps, so be sure to bring the kids to the races so they can get a ride in a racecar this Sunday.
The DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds, DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds, DIRTcar Street Stocks, BattleKarz, and NY Modified Midgets will be on the racing card starting at 7pm.
