ESS EXTRA!!

Woodhull Raceway, Woodhull, N.Y..

It had a slogan of “Having fun in the boonies!” for many years. Under the guidance of Jim Williams, then the Drake family and now Vern Wasson, the little known Woodhull Raceway has always been one of the best kept secrets in all of the Empire State.

The high banked wonder, and we mean high banked! Is a tight 1/3rd mile oval which really tests a driver’s style. There’s no other track in the Northeast like Woodhull which adds to the mystique.

The Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints will be making its second visit in a row after a seven year hiatus. Last years event drew a huge crowd and this season with a weekend double header with its sister track Clinton County you can expect even more sprint fans to make the trek.

Local drivers of interest will be Tim Kelly, Chris Muhleisen, Gary Troutman and two-time ESS winner at Woodhull George Suprick. Many of the Pa. stars from Clinton County will be heading north to Woodhull as well.

The track itself sits in a natural bowl with the concrete grandstand slabs imbedded in a hill making for great view of the track and the picturesque Woodhull hillside. The pits are located up on a hill off turns one and two. Even though the banks are ominous, many grooves are used during the racing evening and several thousand fans will be out to have a fun Saturday night!
