Ludemann Cashes in on First Career Feature Win

By Bill Nelson

Spring Valley MN

July 12, 2008

A cool day for June (wait it is July isn’t it) was in store for the fans and drivers who headed out to Deer Creek Speedway on this Saturday. With this being night three of racing in eight days a very nice crowd and a good field of cars took to the speedway on Clement’s Auto night along with Associate sponsors L & D Ag of Heartland and Rent and Save of Austin.

The racing action started out early with the Pepsi slingshots hitting the Button Buck Speedway at three o’clock with the Junior Slingshots taking to the track for their feature race first. After a complete restart Brayde Faulhaber jumped out to the early lead with Lucas Schott close behind in second. With two down Schott pressured Faulhaber for the lead. Parker Hale ran a close third. The top three were pulling away from the field at the halfway point while Faulhaber and Schott raced side by side for a lap until Faulhaber pushed up in turn four and over the banking handing the lead to Schott. Hale sat in third with Dustin Sorensen working into third from last on the start. Just as the field was ready to run the last two laps a young Bald eagle flew over the speedway and watched from above as Schott took home another win with Hale in second and Sorensen third.

The Pee-Wee division of the Pepsi Slingshots took to the track next with Dustin Sorensen took the early lead with Lexi Schott in second and Brayde Faulhbaer third. Faulhaber and Schott exchanged position and lines on the speedway racing side by side for the better part of three laps with Schott holding onto the position. Garrett Koster ran in fourth and as Faulhaber dropped back Jackson took over third from him. With three to go Jackson moved around Schott to take over second. Faulhaber and Schott kept racing each other to the end with Sorensen wining. Koster finished second with Schott rounding out the top three.

Jordan Yaggy started out with the lead on lap one of the Regular Pepsi slingshot division with Lucas Schott and Jeremy Paulson racing for second. Schott took control of second early on and on lap three pushed up allowing Paulson to move into second. Schott fought back under Paulson on the next lap. Just past halfway Parker Hale moved under Paulson for third and set his sights for Schott in second. Hale moved past Schott for second with five to go while Paulson followed Hale through to take over third. Yaggy cruised home with the win in the regular division.

With action completed on the little track the events on the 3/8 mile high banked speedway began promptly at 6:00. The Tim’s Repair and Towing WISSOTA Street Stocks set the tone for the rest of the nights racing action with another great feature event. The start of the feature saw a three wide battle for the lead on lap one until Danny Hanson led the pack. Behind him Jesse Stahl and Sam Averbeck were side by side for second. Ryan Goergen looked strong on lap three and moved into the second spot as Averheck dropped back to fourth. AJ Zvorak also looked strong moving up to race with Stahl for third. Ten laps left and Bobby Kilby was catching Zvorak for third and working him low in the corners. Up front Hanson was slowly putting distance between himself and Goergen. Zvorak cleared Goergen with five to go but spun with three left collecting himself and Kilby ending their runs. On the restart Karl Hewitt Jr. who had been sitting in fifth for most of the race got a great jump on the drop of the green and charged alongside of Hanson. The raced side by side as the white flag dropped. Hewitt Jr. took home the win followed by Hanson and Stahl.

Up front the race was a little boring as Jerry Young dominated the Dirt Doctor Trucking Midwest Modified race early but the action behind him was second to none. Early on it was Pete Bushman and AJ Wiste racing for the second spot with most of the field still two and three wide around the track. Jason Born was next to race with Bushman this time for third as Wiste held onto second. Born took third with fourteen to go. Just outside of the top five they were still racing three and four wide for position. Thirteen to go and Bryan Hernandez took fourth from Bushman. Eight laps remaining and Young was cruising around up front slowly pulling away for the win but a caution with four to go bunched them all back up. On the restart Albert Wytaske who was running fifth made a bold move under and pulled alongside of Young for the lead in two. Young held the spot and drove it in hard into three and four with Wytaske right there. The two touched bringing out another caution as the Wytaske machine pulled off the track with a flat. Further inspection of the Young car found broken front end parts ending his night. On the restart Hernandez moved into the lead. Jared Boumeester and Kenny Wytaske were racing for second until Joel Alberts dove low in turn four coming to the checkers and his car stuck propelling him to second ahead of Boummester and Wytaske. Brandon Davis finished fifth after starting twenty third on the field.

Kevin Hager jumped out front in the US Army WISSOTA Super Stock feature event with Jason Gabrielson in second. Gabrielson slipped in two on lap two allowing Chris Klinger to take over second. Ryan Siegle and Chris Voth followed through for third and fourth. Klinger and Siegle raced for second while Dustin Nelson worked into the top five with fourteen to go. Klinger and Siegle stayed side by side until lap ten when Siegle took over the second spot. Siegle immediately moved up and started pressuring Hager for the lead while Gabrielson and Nelson raced side by side for fifth. A restart with seven to go saw Siegle move to the high line and powered alongside of Hager for the lead. Siegle made the move work and took the lead with five to go. Klinger came home second with Hager third at the line.

“Lightning” Joe Ludemann started on the outside of the front row for the twenty five lap Valley Featherlite WISSOTA Late Model feature event. Ludemann and Dustin Reeh raced side by side for lap one with Ludemann taking the lead. Nick Kramer and Dennis Hillson were side by side for second as Ludemann opened up an early lead. The battle for second stayed close until Nick Herrick moved into the fray. With Herrick now in second and Keith Foss working into third with nineteen to go you imagined it was only a matter of time before one of those two caught the leader. As the track turned black from t op to bottom Foss ran low and Herrick high as they raced side by side until five laps left. Ludemann came home with the win by ten car lengths for his first ever feature win. Ludemann ahs looked really strong this season after purchasing this car from Mark Teske. Herrick came home second with Foss in third. Nick Kramer and Dennis Hillson rounded out the top five with their best runs of the season.

The final race of the night was the EZ Fabricating USRA Modifieds with Brad Waits starting on the pole. Mike Sorensen was digging hard early in second and worked inside of Waits as he tried to get to the front. With eighteen to go Sorensen was still working Waits while Tim Donlinger worked into third. The top three pulled away slightly from the rest of the field. A restart with fifteen to go saw Donlinger work past Sorensen and racing Waits for the lead. Sorensen and Donlinger made contact on the next lap with Sorensen spinning into the infield. With twelve to go Donlinger took over the lead from Waits. Donlinger was really pinching the car off coming out of the corners to keep the machine from drifting out to the wall and it was working out as he was able to pull out to a good lead quickly as he found extra traction down low. Another cat who has been fast of late is Jason Cummins. As Donlinger started to pull away I noticed the light blue and white machine of Cummins gaining on Waits. Cummins moved to the low side of the speedway after running up against the wall to work on Waits. Cummisn took the second spot with three to go. Waits came home third with Bob Timm and Todd Scharkey rounding out the top five.

Racing action resumes next Saturday with the Slingshots racing on Button Buck Speedway at 3:00. At 6:00 the 410 IRA Sprint cars will be hand along with the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds and the USRA Modifieds.
