Lemley makes first time visit to Castrol Raceway a memorable one.
AST News: Brock Lemley had never set eyes on Castrol Raceway or even been to Alberta, Canada for that matter but he figured things out in quick fashion. The Bellingham, Washington driver started the evening 8th fastest on the field of 28 cars in his J&J, Shark powered sprinter. Then with a few adjustments by his crew of Kyle Kenoyer and Ryan Kentch on the Jet City Equipment ride, Lemley found himself locked into the feature with a 3rd place finish in the 4th and final heat of the night.
The Skagit Speedway champion would find himself starting 8th in the big show and looking for a belated birthday present, made fast laps through traffic early on. Soon an intense 4 way battle began with the likes of Sean Moran, Joe Ramaker, Jason Solwold and Lemley. Moran the 2005 Gold Cup champion had the field covered on an open track and in historic sprint car finishes, Lemley made his big move on the final corners of the last lap. As Moran approached lapped traffic Lemley saw his only chance was to throw the Hyundai Equipment, Deming Speedway machine underneath the 6m entering corner 3 and hope it would hold.
In the blink of an eye, Lemley found himself leading the way to the checkers as the exited the 4th turn and capturing the 2008 Gold Cup. Brock turned 28 on Thursday and couldnt think of a better gift then this. Moran would have to settle for third as Jason Solwold beat the reeling driver by 1,000th of a second to the stripe. Scott Safety AST drivers Gord Kynoch and Marc Duperron would round out the top 5.
