Friday July 11th DARE Night at Moler On July 11th, the staff of Moler Raceway Park welcomed a large crowd to DARE Night. Kids in attendance received a goodie bag compliments of Highland County DARE Officer Bobby Stroop and Rick Wilkin of Lynchburg, Ohio displayed his DARE Sherriff for Kids drag car. More than 42 kids participated in the MRP Foot races, with lil' Miss Streble, Michael Norris and Zach Vangoose taking the top honors in their age group. Another beautiful Friday night for racing resulted in the first repeat winner of the season in the Sunesis Construction Late Model Division. Point Leader Barry Doss started the night by winning his heat race and then taking the win in the late model dash. Come feature time it was Mike Amell and Doss on the front row with Doss taking control from the get go and leading the entire 25 lap A-Main event in his Howsers Discount & Garage, D& G Trucking, Gabbard Ford sponsored Automobile. Fast qualifier Mike Amell (12.958) came home second followed by third heat winner Mike Myers in third, with Larry Pickelheimer Jr and Troy Cruse rounding out the top five. In the Cheapbowlingballs.com UMP Modified feature, it was all Doug Adkins as the “Buzzard” led flag to flag to win his third feature event of the season. It was far from easy as Dave McWilliams battled Adkins on the start and again through the middle of the race before coming up short at the finish. Adkins in his trademark 239 Auto Group #7 seemed like he was untouchable and as only Adkins does he continued his tradition of giving away the victory trophy to a lucky child he picked from the crowd. Mc Williams came home second followed by point leader Ray Branscum, Jeremie Bretz and Matt Hamilton. Heat wins went to Adkins, McWilliams, and Matt Hamilton while Eric Shepard was victorious in the B-Main event. In the Phantom Fireworks Pure Stock division it was Glen Este’s Derrick Davis winning his 3rd feature event of the season in his Rislone, Mugavin Auto Body, Dooley Transmission sponsored machine. Davis started on the front row but Steve Upchurch led lap #1 before Davis got by and sped to the victory. Smokin Tim Carpenter chased Davis home in 2nd place followed by hard charging Mike Keller who start tenth on the field. Ed Reynolds and Todd Anstaett rounded out the top five finishers. In the M.R.P Chevette division, the question remains, is anyone going to beat 2007 Track Champion Miles Tarvin. After winning his heat Tarvin started in the pole position of the feature but it would be no easy task as Alannah Weis who was driving the #21 machine formerly driven by Brandon Elam who would start outside of Tarvin after winning her heat race as well. On the start it looked like Weis was going to take the top spot but heading down the backstretch on lap 1 Tarvin was able to pull up next to her and take position going through turns #3 & 4. From there Tarvin would not be touched as he went on to win the 15 lap A-main event. Weiss held on for 2nd place over Nick Hodges, Jeff Watson, and Kevin Riggs. In the 600cc mini-sprints it looked like it might be another night for the Wills family as Todd Wills was victorious in his heat event with Xenia Ohio’s Beau Stewart also winning his heat event. In the feature though it was fifteen year old newcomer Gary Loney from Springfield Ohio taking his first ever win in his Dayton Orthopedics, All-season Tree Services, Dept of Public Safety, Ohio State Patrol sponsored machine. Loney led all 15 laps but it was far from easy as Beau Stewart got around Sam Ashworth mid-race before setting his sites on the leader. Stewart would come home 2nd with Ashworth, Herschel Wills, and Todd Keene rounding out the top five. Special Thanks to Rick Wilkin, Bobby Stroop and Chris Shannon(giving foot race winners a Shannon Racing t-shirt.
