Daniels Wins AirborneMayor’s Cup Special

Plattsburgh - Joe Daniels of Saranac took advantage of attrition ahead of himand pulled away late for a six car-length win in the 40-lap Airborne SpeedwayRenegade Mayors Cup Special Saturday night.
Daniels started 16th and rose to fourth when second place Rick Hartlost a wheel and took out third place Randy Ladue with him. When leader LanceRabtoy’s motor blew up one lap after the restart, Daniels inherited first place.Nick Heywood of Peru caught Mike Criss for second on the white flag lap. JoshAllen finished fourth. Chris Frennier was fifth.
Lamberton, a former Airborne Late Model champion, drove the Outback SteakhouseNo. 24L to a dominant win, his first at Airborne since 2001, in the High PeaksDental Modified 30-lap trophy dash. Lamberton took the lead from Andy Heywoodon lap 7 sped off to a straightaway advantage. Behind him Heywood, Mike Bruno,Patrick Dupree, Jason Durgan and Martin Roy staged a ferocious duel for the runner-upspot with each car gaining and losing track position within each lap. Brunowound up second with Durgan third, Heywood fourth and Roy fifth. “It’s verysweet,” Lamberton said of his win. “We put our families and crew through somuch to get here. I want to thank Wes Moody (car owner) for this.”
Robin Wood of Plattsburgh scored his first win of the season in the J&SSteel Sportsman feature. Wood withstood challenges from Jason Bonnett, MikeWells and Jamy Begor (2nd) then drew off late to a five car-lengthvictory. Bucko Branham, Bonnett and Mike Wells completed the top five.
Dustin Duval of Keeseville caught his uncle Rick Doner at the wire to win theNAPA Warrior feature. It was the second straight week Doner finished second byless than four feet. Justin Doner placed third. Malcolm Woodward of MooersForks won the Monster Energy Bomber feature.
