ABOUT THE TRACKS
Grandview is an action-packed 1/3-mile high banked clay oval. Duane Howard established the single lap record in an Advance Auto Parts Series event last year when he circled the track in 14.532 seconds (82.576 mph) on July 18, 2007, the seventh straight year using the AMB Scoring & Timing System. Coming to life again in grand fashion for its 2008 season-opener, Georgetown is a fast half-miler with a track record waiting to be established in Advance Series Big-Block Modified competition on Thursday evening.

The 2008 event marks the first-ever tour stop at Georgetown, although special qualifying races for Super DIRT Week on the Syracuse Mile were staged at the Delaware oval throughout the 1980s. Past winners at the recently rejuvenated speedplant include Tom Capie (1988), Bob Toreky (1987) and Craig VonDohren (1986), with local hero Harold Bunting copping Syracuse Qualifiers in 1981-82 and 1984-85.
TRACK HISTORY
Grandview Speedway is rich in history, opening up for the first time in 1963. Property owner Forrest Rogers was first approached by the Pottstown All-Stars, a local racing club, with the thought of building a quarter-mile asphalt track in Berks County . At the time. the Pottstown All Stars staged stock car races at Sanatoga, Hatfield and the Municipal Stadium in Philadelphia . The deal never materialized with the Pottstown All Stars but Rogers moved forward and began building his track in the fall of 1962. The track in its design was a one-third mile high-banked clay oval offering a seating capacity of about one-thousand spectators. The original announcers booth was large enough to hold three people and today that announcers booth remains on the property and is used as a ticket booth at the front grandstand gate. Rogers worked hard at building Grandview but a heart attack ended his life just four years later. His son, Bruce Rogers, became the principal earth shaker at developing the future of the fledgling facility. To this day Bruce remains a plain and simple guy who loves this sport and that awesome track that sits on "the hill."
Over the years numerous improvements were made including a large expansion of the pit area, improved seating and the new high rise grandstands in turns three and four. Seating capacity around this racey "bullring" is nearly six-fold from the tracks original opening day crowd on August 11, 1963. The measured length of the track has never changed yet over the years the track was made wider to offer some of the most exciting side-by-side racing witnessed anywhere. Improved lighting and a new wheel fence provide excellent and safe viewing for all spectators and unlike most speedways, Grandview offers a close look and feel of the excitement that only dirt track modified stock car racing can generate.
Orwigsburg, Pa. driver Lauden Potts won the first-ever race held that August day at Grandview Speedway and a popular name to modified racing, Dick Haven, was crowned the track's first season champion. In 1964, Grandview Speedway changed from the modifieds to the Flathead Sportsman class then in 1968 the track went strictly sportsman stock cars. Warren Mutter goes down in history as being one of Grandview 's all time favorite drivers as well as being a big winner. Don Loder, Red Lesher, Leon Altemose, Pete Damiani, Mike Geiser and Mike Kelly were other big name drivers. Grandview also had a rich history in open cockpit racing, showcasing such big names as Duane 'Pancho' Carter, Wayne Woodward, Johnny Coy, Lehigh Earnshaw, Johnny Hubbard, Len Duncan and Carl Miller. It is also reported that A.J. Foyt ran his final dirt track race at Grandview , joining several NASCAR drivers such as Darrell Waltrip, Rusty Wallace, Sterling Marlin and Kyle Petty in one of the original "Race of Champions."
The Modifieds grew bigger as the crowds became larger at Grandview Speedway. In the late 1980's and well into the 90's, Grandview Speedway experienced a growth trend literally unmatched by any neighboring speedway. Tracks like Reading , Nazareth , Penn National and Flemington ultimately lost the battle with their neighbors and local townsmen while Grandview just kept growing. Drivers like Kenny Brightbill, Glenn Fitzcharles, Fred Rahmer and Dave Kelly launched their racing careers at the Bechtelsville oval and rose to be the best in their class in the years to come. One of the most popular events on the Grandview Speedway schedule is the rich and historic Freedom 76 for modifieds. This 76-lap event pays more then $20,000 to win and has attracted more then one-hundred cars just to attempt qualifying. Another significant event on the schedule is the Forrest Rogers Memorial, a race dedicated to the track founder and paying $10,000 to win.
The Thunder on the Hill Racing Series was born in August of 1990. Track owner Bruce Rogers and local racing official Bob Miller joined forces to present a special mid-week racing series. Thunder on the Hill is now in it's 19th season and is the trend-setter for offering unique, fan appealing, variety-filled special events. The Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Modified Series joined Thunder on the Hill in 1998 with the first presentation of the 100 Lap TRAFFIC JAM. The show was wildly successful and continues to be an event showcased annually on the Grandview Speedway schedule.
With the James Family prepared to kick off a new era of racing at Georgetown Speedway in 2008, the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series takes center stage for the track’s latest revival during the new millennium. Sitting idle for a decade, Georgetown re-opened in 2006 and finished with one of the most solid seasons in the track’s storied history that dates back more than a half-century. Also operating under the names Sea Coast Speedway, Delaware Speedway and Stokley Speedway, Georgetown ’s half-mile dirt oval first opened for competition in autumn of 1949 and continued through 1963, running again 1971-1990 and 1992-97. Scoring four wins in the eight Big-Block features held last season, Ryan Godown topped the final 2007 track point standings followed by Wade Hendrickson (3 wins), Billy Pauch (1), Chad James and Duane Rust. Pauch took the most checkered flags (5) driving for car owner Will Brown in ‘06 ---joining Jamie Mills, Keith Hoffman and Richie Pratt Jr. in the win column--- yet no points champion was officially declared. Along with business partner Brian Ramey, Bridgeport (NJ) Speedway owner Jay James took over the Georgetown lease this year and wasted little time contacting the DIRTcar NorthEast front office to discuss the possibilities of bringing in the top touring Big-Block Modified teams to headline the grand re-opening festivities in July
2007 RACE REVIEW
All-time Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series winner Brett Hearn wrapped up the annual summer show with an impressive performance after pulling away from runner-up Ryan Godown late in the race to score his third Traffic Jam 100 victory at Grandview Speedway. Hearn started sixth in the 31-car field and needed just eight laps to wrestle away the lead from pole-sitter Duane Howard and cruise on to his second tour triumph of the season steering the potent Madsen Motorsports no. 20 Wentworth Custom Homes-Kruger-WLR/TEO Big-Block Modified. Godown held off a late-race charge by Steve Paine to earn a preferred starting spot in the Rite Aid 200 at Syracuse during Super DIRT Week while Howard and Billy Decker filled out the front-five in promoter Bob Miller’s 10th annual ‘Thunder On The Hill’ century grind.
Hearn began the night with one of the fastest cars in Integra Shocks Time Trials, yet his seventh quick time was overshadowed by current track points runner-up Howard who established a new one-lap series record mark circling Grandview ’s high-banked 1/3-miler in a time of 14.532 sec. (82.576 mph). Tour stars Jimmy Phelps and Billy Decker also surpassed the previous fast time set by Matt Sheppard (14.635 sec.) in an Advance Auto Parts Series event on August 18, 2004. Those fast times quickly went by the wayside as Howard’s draw inverted the top-four to start each heat race qualifier and neither driver could better a third-place finish in their respective preliminary event. However, after securing third in his heat, Howard quickly redeemed himself by selecting the #1 Advance Auto Parts baseball cap to start the feature from the pole-position. While Howard retained his early advantage despite yellow flag fever strickening the speedway, the third restart was a charm for Hearn as he blasted by high out of turn three to forge the final lead change on the eighth circuit. Despite pulling under Godown in the corners nearly every lap from 90 on, Paine failed to improve on third-place and settled for his second top-five Series finish of the season. And with his nearest challengers caught up in their own personal battle, Hearn stretched his lead to two-thirds of a straightaway and won going away by nearly a full 2.0 seconds at the stripe.

NEWS & NOTES
Mr. DIRTcar Championship Format Fine Tuned In ‘08: The overall Hoosier Tire Mr. DIRTcar Modified Champion in 2008 will be determined by adding actual points earned in the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series along with bonus points collected at a designated hometrack throughout the racing season. Along with gaining valuable Advance Series points during the year, each driver can now earn a maximum of 300 additional points from their best five hometrack feature race finishes. Using the standard DIRTcar NE weekly points format, a driver winning five features could carry up to 300 extra points (60 per win) into the Mr. DIRTcar Championship when track points are officially tallied after Labor Day.
Funfest At Grandview: The Advance Auto Parts Series ‘Traffic Jam’ will mark another FAN FUN NIGHT at Grandview Speedway. Introduced several years back, the Thunder Series ‘FanFest’ will be returning for the Wednesday night show. Fans just love the popular ‘Inside/Out Promotion’ where race fans have an opportunity to watch warm-ups from the infield. Those spectators purchasing advance tickets may also sign-up for this absolutely free activity and don't be surprised if a guest driver or two joins your group to watch warm-ups. In addition, prior to the feature event and after the cars are staged on the homestretch, every child accompanied by an adult will be invited to the homestretch to meet and greet the drivers in the starting field. Soonafter, one lucky advance ticket holder will be invited to waive the first green flag of the night, right from the flag stand with the thundering Modifieds roaring underneath. Special giveaways throughout the night and other Fan Fun stuff will certainly make this event one to remember.
Dates With Delaware: The Advance Auto Parts Super Series has not journeyed to the First State since top point chasers last raced at Charlie Cathell’s Delaware Int’l Speedway in August of 2004. Billy Decker successfully defended his race title for a second time in ’04 as DIS actually ended a string of three straight advance Series shows in 1998. Danny Johnson claimed the inaugural victory at Delaware in 1996 and Jack Johnson followed up in ’97 before Decker took top honors. For an abundance of news & notes detailing all the action taking place in the state of Delaware, including exclusive photos both past and present, please visit www.redbud69racing.com and be sure to book mark this site for future reference. Shocking Results For Series Fast Qualifiers: For a third straight year, Integra Shocks will play an active role in point fund sponsorship of the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series during the upcoming race season. The fast driver during 2008 Advance Auto Parts Series qualifying will once again earn the 'Integra Shocks Fast Time Award' and the driver winning the most Integra Shocks Fast Time awards during the season will collect a bonus set of four Integra Shocks ($1,400 value) at the DIRTcar Racing NorthEast Banquet in November. The Advance Auto Parts Series has recognized fast time trialers since 1983, with 1999 marking the first year the awards program included every tour event scheduled during the year. All-time Advance Series race winner Brett Hearn is also a leader when it comes to speed, earning a series-best total of 38 Integra Shocks Fast Time awards during the past two decades.
Drivers will continue to draw for their order in the 'Integra Shocks Time Trials’ at nearly every Advance Series stop, with the fast timer once again selecting a second pill to determine how many cars (0, 2, 3 or 4) will be inverted to start each preliminary heat race. The 'Integra Shocks Fast Time Award' winner will collect $100 and five (5) bonus points and the top-three heat race finishers will earn additional bonus points as follows: 1st-5 pts, 2nd-3 pts, 3rd-1 pt. With this inversion format in place, a driver can now earn a maximum of 10 more points being the fast timer as well as a heat race winner.
Grand Slam Showcases Series: The customary pre-race re-draw among top heat race qualifiers will continue to be in effect throughout the summer, with season-ending events at the New York State Fairgrounds and Orange County Fair Speedway the only Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series stops awarding fast timers with pole-position starts (heat points will not be awarded at these shows). Lebanon Valley Speedway and Rolling Wheels Raceway Park host the initial “200s” to make up the high-dollar Advance Series ‘Grand Slam’ in 2008.
Continuing to rank among the most prestigious races in the country, the Rite Aid 200 at the N.Y.S. Fairgrounds in Syracuse on Oct. 12, Eastern States 200 at Orange County on Oct. 19, Coors National 200 at Lebanon Valley on Sept. 6 and World Series Weekend 200 at Rolling Wheels on Sept. 27 are the only 200-lap races on the annual tour. In 2008 these four signature events on the Advance Auto Parts Series formulate the prestigious ‘Grand Slam’ in DIRTcar Racing for Big-Block Modifieds. In addition, the Rite Aid 200 winner automatically earns seventh-place on the Eastern States 200 starting grid.
This unique ‘Grand Slam’ features the $50,000-to-win Rite Aid 200 in the Salt City , $20,000-to-win Eastern States 200 in Middletown (NY), $10,000-to-win Coors National 200 at the West Lebanon (NY) oval with another $10-grand on the line for the Rolling Wheels National 200 winner. Syracuse and Orange County are the only Advance Auto Parts Series stops where the fast timers start on the pole and the top-six are locked into front three row starting positions while heats will be aligned in heads-up fashion. A special points system was implemented for these prominent races last season with each winner receiving 150 Series points and 50 points awarded to start.
Syracuse SDW Starters Guaranteed Through Series Success: Guaranteed starting berths in the Rite Aid 200 are once again up for grabs and in 2008 more drivers than ever before will be able to earn preferred starter status throughout the season for the richest DIRTcar Big-Block Modified event in the world. Winners of the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series races and those among the top-12 in overall Hoosier Tire-Sunoco Race Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Modified Championship points heading into Super DIRT Week comprise the core group of drivers receiving guaranteed starting positions in the Rite Aid 200. Preferred starters are the next eligible drivers finishing behind an Advance Auto Parts Series race winner that is already locked into the Rite Aid 200 starting grid, as well as all three DIRTcar Big-Block Modified Regional point champions and every licensed Big-Block Modified track champion crowned this year.
In order to take advantage of their guaranteed starting positions in the Rite Aid 200, Advance Series race winners and top-12 Mr. DIRTcar point-getters must run time trials. Any guaranteed driver that fails to qualify through time trials or a Triple 20 will be added to the Rite Aid field in order of heat race results. Those drivers holding preferred status are afforded up front starting positions in the Dig Safely New York last-chance qualifier on Sunday, Oct. 12 if unable to qualify while running under the clocks or in heat race competition. The balance of the Rite Aid 200 line-up is filled in from the Dig Safely New York Shootout with the 45th starting spot going to the best overall finisher in Cayuga County Fair Speedway’s ‘Win & You’re In’ Twin 25s on Sat., Oct. 11.
