Matt Deschamps Claims First Ever Feature Win At The New Humberstone Speedway
on Midas Muffler Night
It was a healthy field of mini’s that took the green flag from starter Barry
Davidson last Sunday night at The New Humberstone Speedway on Midas Muffler
Night, and they did not disappoint. There was only one caution thru out the
entire 15 laps, and the racing was fast and furious. Matt Deschamps was the
early leader and remained out front as the laps winded down, having some
heavy hitters behind him, the 43 car drove his line and raced a good race to
win his first ever feature win. The 7w of Aaron Wiley having to settle for a
solid 2nd place finish, and Garnet Wilson placing 3rd. Rob Goulding was
having one of his best runs at Humberstone this year but on lap 14 he went
off on turn 1 and jogged onto the front stretch to congratulate Matt
Deschamps. Rob Murray also tried his hand in the ministock division and
placed a solid 5th. He was racing the Carey Gore car (Gore has had surgery
and will be lending his car out to other drivers thru out the season) Top 5
were Matt Deschamps, Aaron Wiley, Garnet Wilson, James Small and Rob Murray.
(Heat Winners were Aaron Wiley and Rob Overholt)
What is a tough break for one might be a lucky break for another, which was
the case in the Brian’s Tire Repair Streetstock Division last Sunday night.
The 88 of Shayne Pierce was having a strong run out in front trying to
battle the 10 of Jaren Israel and the 1J of Jason Fontaine. With 10 laps to
go in the 20 lap race, it was anyone’s race, with the field still bunched
up. With 3 laps to go the 1J was sent tail for spinning the 88 dashing
both of their hopes at capturing the checkered flags. So Jaren Israel
happily took the checkered flag and made it two in a row for the 10 car. Top
5 were Jaren Israel, Brad Sheehan, Alan Sleight, Kevin Knapp and Jason
Fontaine. (Heat Winners were Shayne Pierce and Brad Sheehan)
It was a redemption night for the 1P of Darren Peters; Peters won the 25 lap
Cosco Haulage Sportsman race last Sunday night. Peters, who was disqualified
last week for a technical infraction, ran a smooth and fast race. The 777
also wanted this win and if the laps went to 30, it would have been
interesting to see who the victor would have been. The 777 of Tyler
McPherson was finding major bite on the outside, while Peters chose the
inside of the track, both working to each others advantage. Strange caution
on lap 14 when the 52 of James Michael Friesen jumped the concrete guardrail
and managed to drive away from it, but having to go tail for bringing out
the caution. The 99c also having a good run and held on for a 3rd place
finish. Top 5 were Darren Peters, Tyler McPherson, Nick Cupolo, Mike Bowman
and Rob Pratt. (Heat Winners were Nick Cupolo, Paul Gaboury, Darren Peters
and Rob Pratt)
Modified Lites Stars Championship Tour North was on hand tonight, to give
the fans a show. And the show was between the 1 of Paul Klager and the 15 of
Adam Leslie, Klager and Leslie went head to head for almost the entire 20
lap event, but in the end if was Adam Leslie who claimed the checkered flag.
Scary moment on lap 2 when the 63J of Jeff Johnson flipped along the front
stretch, he was deemed okay by Ontario Motorsports Rescue and managed to
continue with the race. By lap 6 the 63J was making his way thru the field
of cars and was up to 7th place and gained one more spot to finish 6th
place. Top 5 were Adam Leslie, Paul Klager, Shawn Sliter, Jamie Gilbert and
Josh Sliter. (Heat Winners were Tim Jones and Paul Klager)
Don Lessard captured his 4th victory of the 2008 in the Niagara Auto Sales
Pro 4 Truck Division. Lessard who battled 2007 Champion Ed McNamara for the
first place position, McNamara getting a little loose in turn 2 and allowing
the 64 truck to easily take the lead along with some of the K51 sheet metal.
McNamara managed to hang on to a decent 2nd place finish. The 79 of Rick
Book and the 32a of Andy Imbeault had a fight all their own behind the
leader, the battle for 3rd place, a battle to be won by Andy Imbeault. Top 5
were Don Lessard, Ed McNamara, Andy Imbeault, Rick Book, Doug Banner, (Heat
Winner was Doug Banner)
The DTD 360 Sprints made their 3rd appearance in the 2008 season,
and hometown favorite Rob Pietz captured the checkered flag in the 20 lap
event. Pietz quickly distanced himself from the field at one time having a ˝
a track lead over second place car Jim Porter. Top 5 were Rob Pietz, Jim
Porter, Jim Price, John Burbridge and John Burbridge Jr. (Heat Winners were
Jim Porter and Rob Pietz)
