RAIN IS THE DECISIVE FORCE SUNDAY AT BIG DIAMOND RACEWAY…By Gary Lileck Forestville, PA – July 13, 2008 – Sunday was supposed to be race number three of the Naftzinger’s Used Auto Parts/Detweiler 24 Hour Towing Nutty Buddy Enduro Series. Unfortunately, Mother Nature was not in favor.
Thirty-nine 6/8 Cylinders, twenty-seven 4 Cylinders, and a handful of test and tune cars were signed in for the afternoon’s festivities. At about 4:45PM, rain began to fall. Just when the moisture began to ease off, a heavier downpour pelted the facility. The scheduled racing card was eventually canceled around 5:30PM.
Officials worked very hard to prepare the speedway for the Enduro events. The water supply at the speedway had been vandalized. At 10AM Sunday morning, four local fire companies began hauling water onto the speedway grounds. The track was just about race ready at 4:45PM when the rains arrived.
Big Diamond Raceway management would like to thank the following fire companies for their help on Sunday: Llewellyn Hose, Heckscherville, Forestville, and Phoenix Park. Their assistance is very much appreciated.
Two events are scheduled for this upcoming weekend. The URC Sprint cars make their first appearance of the season on Friday evening July 18. New Jersey’s JJ Grasso has won three URC events in a row and searches for a possible fourth straight win this Friday. Former track regulars Joe Biasi Jr. and Jimmy Reppert also tour with URC. The 358 Modifieds will complete the double header in an event sponsored by NAPA Auto Parts of Schuylkill County. Gates open at 5PM and racing begins at 7:45PM.
Wink Motorsports & Brinckman Coins present a special three-division show on Sunday July 20. The Limited Late Models make their initial appearance of 2008. Big Diamond’s regular divisions of Sportsman and Roadrunners are also on the card. Adult general admission to the stands for this event is $8. Warm-ups begin at 6:00PM.
As summer continues, Big Diamond Raceway presents weekly cards of exciting action. For schedule updates and other important information, visit the track’s website at www.bigdiamondraceway.com |
