AST To Make "Classic" Return To Speedy Creek Raceway
Western Canada’s fastest dirt racing series returns to Swift Current, Saskatchewan for the running of the 2008 Prairie Dirt Classic. Last year the Scott Safety Alberta Sprint Tour thrilled race fans at Speedy Creek Raceway with the fastest laps they have ever seen. The 700 HP winged warriors were a high speed blur sliding through the corners at a tire blistering pace.
“The 2007 Prairie Dirt was an excellent show, the fans and the facility was exceptional” states AST director Rolly Nash, “The AST was honoured to be asked back in 08’ and for a 2-day show to boot was icing on the cake”. “We are hoping for even better numbers then last year as far as fan attendance and race teams” continues Nash, “All the racers that came last season have been talking all season about the great time that was had by all”.
There will be a new champion crowned in 2008, as the inaugural winner Travis Rutz from B.C. has been hired by another team to compete in the U.S. “I really wish we could make it this year but it is just not in the cards” says Rutz, “Last year was an awesome time, the fans in Swift Current are truly second to none”. Planning on returning in 08’ will be the lone wolf of Saskatchewan, Kyle Fedyk of Estevan. “The AST is a very well run program, everyone is on the ball with their position and the show runs smoothly”. Fedyk continues to say “We’ll be back this year for sure...I've got something to prove there”.
The Prairie Dirt Classic gets its name to show appreciation to Prairie Dirt racing web author and motorsports enthusiast Greg Cybulski. AST marketing & promotions director William Gold quotes “Without Greg (Cybulski) I don’t think the AST would be in Swift Current, he has been instrumental in promoting 360 Sprint car racing in the Prairie Provinces”. “It was a pleasure to name this event on his behalf”.
For any motor sport fan this is a must see event, the 360 cubic inch methanol burning monster known as the Winged Sprint car is pound for pound the heavy weight of short track racing. With more horsepower and less overall weight then a CHAMP car they are truly a sight to behold as they slide 2 and 3 wide through the turns.
The 2008 Prairie Dirt Classic is scheduled for August 1st and 2nd and for more information fans can go to Speedy Creek Raceways web site at www.scra.ca or visit the AST’s homepage at www.albertasprinttour.com.
