Newberrytown, PA (July 18, 2008) The first race for the SSP Outback Track was set for Saturday, July 19, but will be postponed until Saturday, July 26 due to excessively high afternoon heat. The track conditions after the two week break have also come under some concern by track management but will be rectified for the July 26 SSP Outback track opener. The track was in very good condition for the final practice on July 5 and should be great for the season opener.
“It is frustrating to be so close to being ready for the opener and not being able to, but we want to make sure that the first race is a positive memory for everyone rather than a bad experience with the heat and unfavorable track condition,” said SSP co-owner, Todd Fisher. “We are concerned that the heat will be too excessive for the young drivers in the middle of the day.”
On Saturday, July 26, the pit gates will open 10:30 a.m. with a driver’s meeting at 11:45 a.m. Open practice begins at 12:00 p.m. and racing at 1:00 p.m.
Pit pass prices for the Outback Track will be $8.00 for everyone ages 8 & older; Children 7 years of age and under will be $2.00. Hand held infants are admitted free.
The classes for both the karts and quarter midgets will be posted on the website (www.ssspracing.net) by Wednesday morning. There will be no sanctioning body affiliation for either karts or quarter midgets, but the technical/specification rules will be very similar to the major sanctioning groups for these types of cars (W.K.A. and QMA). There will be minor changes that will be announced. The entry fees for classes will also be posted on the website as the majority of the classes will be for trophies only.
There will also be a separate telephone hotline established next week for all participants of the Outback Track to contact that will not be associated with the “Big Track.” The is also going to be a subsection of the website devoted solely to the Outback Track.
Everyone with a pit pass from the Open Practice at the Outback Track will receive the Repeat Fan Discount for that evening’s racing events. There is a $2.00 repeat fan discount for each person with a ticket stub from races during the previous week’s events completed only. Returning fans are encouraged to write their name, address and phone number on the back of the stub to be entered into special drawings during and at the end of the season for great prizes. The Repeat Fan Discount is not valid for pit pass purchases.
