FIVE MILE POINT SPEEDWAY RAINED OUT ON SATURDAY. SCHEDULED THURSDAY INNER LOOP EVENT POSTPONED.

KIRKWOOD, NY…Several rounds of heavy rained knocked out action at Five Mile Point Speedway on Saturday night. A great field of race teams and a large crowd was on hand for the People’s National Bank Conklin Community night prior to the washout. The torrential rain that occurred has left track work crews with the big task of getting the surface back in shape for next Saturday. This has led to the postponement of the scheduled Thursday night inner loop event as well.

The first heavy rain occurred late in the afternoon and track crews quickly went to task to re work the speedway. Practice was just being completed when another round of rain put the action on hold. Track crews again went in to action trying to get the surface ready for action when torrential rain fell putting an end to the evening. Five Mile Point Speedway Owner Andrew Harpell remarked, “Everyone here did a tremendous job in trying to get the speedway race ready all day long, we pride ourselves in trying to get our racing programs completed and Saturday mother nature had the final say.”

On Friday heavy rain swept through the area while crews were working on the speedway. The track was “open” when the rain hit which made the effort on Saturday that much more difficult. Crews went to work at the crack of dawn on Saturday to try and repair the speedway. The track was lightning fast for the practice sessions that were held prior to the rains. Harpell added, “This summer has certainly been a challenge in trying to prepare the speedway - predicted rains have not materialized and this week we had heavy rains on three separate days that rain was not predicted.”

The short term forecast for this week indicates a threat of rain through Wednesday and track crews are going to need a lot of additional time on the speedway surface this week after the torrential rain that fell on Saturday. This has forced the postponement of the scheduled inner loop night that had been set for Thursday. No rescheduled date has been announced at this time as speedway officials are looking for a possible make up date.

Rainchecks will be honored this Saturday night, July 26th. The rainout has set up a huge night of racing at the speedway. The scheduled $1,000 to win IMCA Modified event will take place this Saturday along with the $1,000 to win Pure Stock bonus event. The Sportsman are now part of the racing schedule due to the rainout along with the Figure 8 action. The 600 c.c. Modifieds return for the second time and the full blown Modifieds will be joined by the Lightning Cats and Kiddie Cats.

This Saturday, July 26th will be Maines Paper and Food/Fleet Pride CDL Truckers night. All drivers that present their Class A photo license will be admitted in to the grandstand free of charge.
