Charles Potts Wins the Late Model Marathon at SSP on Saturday Night; Walker; Buck and the Broderick Family are Also Victorious
Newberrytown, PA (July 19, 2008) – Stock Car Saturday Night racing action on July 19 at the Susquehanna Speedway Park found Dover’s Charles Potts winning his first Late Model main event of the season. Middletown ’s Eric Walker won his third Street Stock feature of the season. Donnie Broderick of Lancaster won the Xtreme Stock feature as his father Ray Broderick also from Lancaster won the make-up Xtreme Stock Car feature postponed from June 7. Annville’s Ronnie Buck collected his third Four Cylinder feature event win of the season. Danville ’s Bob Campbell won the PENNMAR Vintage Car thriller.
In the 20-lap Late Model feature event marred by numerous caution flags, Jeremy Knoll led the first six laps until he was relegated to the pits for a damaged nosepiece to be repaired. Gary Potts assumed the lead until nine when Charles Potts took the lead away with an outside pass. Charles Potts held onto the lead over the last half of the race that included five more caution flags to pick up his first win of the season. Point leader Carl Billet came from 10th to finish second. Justin Ehrhart finished third, followed by Grant Adams and Scott Richwine. Charles Potts and Jeremy Knoll won their qualifying heat races.
The 20-lap Street Stock feature event began with Mike Herman taking the lead from the pole position. Herman led the first eight circuits. From an 11th place starting position, Eric Walker grabbed the lead on the ninth lap and never looked back. Walker took the win over Wes Alleman who also came from the 6th row on the start. Craig Morgan, George Eash and Paul Morgan wounded out the top five. Walker, Calvin Herman and Dustin Hollingner won their respective heat races.
In Xtreme Stock Car action, Kevin Higgins was the early leader for the first half of the feature event. Donnie Broderick took over the top spot just after the halfway point from his 9th place starting spot. Broderick led the remaining ten laps to collect his third feature win of the season. Mike Zeigler came from eleventh to finish second. Sam Rial, Adam Smith and Ray Broderick rounded out the top five spots. Donnie Broderick, Jason Failor and Ron Vance won their qualifying heat races.
In the makeup Xtreme Stock Car feature postponed from June 7 that began the evening’s racing events, Rich Lomman took command early for the first half of the race until Ray Broderick took the lead from him on lap eleven. Even after a few cautions in the last half of the feature, Broderick was able to hold off all challengers to pick up the victory over Adam Smith and Donnie Broderick. Ron Vance and Chris Heller rounded out the top five.
In the 20-lap Four Cylinder Stock Car feature event, Henry Lesher took the early lead as Ronnie Buck took command nine laps later and went on to win his third of the season over Lesher. John Stoll Jr. finished third, followed by Eric Hollenbach and Jason Smith. Ed Hollenbach and Buck won their heat races.
The 12-lap PENNMAR Vintage Car feature found heat race winner Paul Bacchus jumping out to the early lead from the second row on the start. Bacchus led the first 10 laps with Bob Campbell taking the lead on the 11th lap. Bob Campbell took the win over Paul Bacchus. Rob Casti finished third, followed by Tom Swanger and Fred Thompson.
The Eastern Museum of Motorsports Racing also had some great looking vintage cars on display. The drivers and cars were also given a few exhibition laps to show the fans what the days of yesterday looked like. The drivers who displayed and exhibited their cars include: Butch Walker (Modified Chevy Coach); Dan Dyer (Silver Springs Racecar); Tom Couglan (1940 Ford); Allen Calp (1957 Chevy Stock Car); Joe Heisler III (1930 Model A Ford); Rick Mandelson (Al Hamilton early Sprint Car); Carl Snyder (Larry Jackson Super Sportsman); and Pee Wee Povlets. The Bowling Green Speedway Preservation Society also had a display depicting the only other York County Speedway that was in operation from 1951 -1956. The speedway was located in southern York County .
Stock Car Saturday Night racing action returns on July 26, with Christmas in July featuring a special visit from Santa Claus. There will also be a money scramble for all kid’s ages 10 & under presented by Members 1st Federal Credit Union. Racing action will include the Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stock Cars, Classic Cars, Mini Vans and Women on Wheels Stock Cars. Racing action begins at 7:00 p.m. Pit gates will open at 4:30 p.m. and the grandstand gates will open at 5:00 p.m.

Wednesday Night Test & Tune Up Next at SSP on July 23
The next Wednesday Night Test & Tune session will be on July 23. It is open to any type of racecars capable of competing on the 4/10 mile oval. The cost is $12.00 per person for pit passes and a $20.00 fee for each racecar entering the pit area ($32.00 per car & driver combination). Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with open track time from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. by class. The fuel pumps fro Miller’s Racing Parts will be open from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Each session will be 6 – 8 laps per session. The grandstands are open free to the public. The main concession stand will also be open throughout the night. Each class will receive 4 to 5 rounds of 6/8 laps each or more if time permits.
