BLANE HEIMBACH POCKETS $3,500 FOR JACK GUNN MEMORIAL VICTORY SATURDAY
NIGHT AT SELINSGROVE
The RISLONE URC Sprint Series returned to the Selinsgrove Speedway on
Saturday night for the 28th Annual Jack Gunn Memorial and local
Selinsgrove, PA favorite Blane Heimbach rallied home the winner. For
Heimbach, it was his third time winning this prestigious race and in
doing so, earned $3,500. Heimbach took the lead on lap twenty-five from
Pat Cannon and extended his lead in the final five laps to take the
victory.
A field of forty sprint cars turned out for the Valley Forge INC URC
Pennsylvania Sprint Series event. Four heat races were presented with
heat race victories going to Pat Cannon, Dave Ely, Brett Schoenly and
Phil Walter as the two "B" Main events were won by Adam Gordon and Mike
Walter.
In the thirty lap main event, Larry Kelleher was the early race leader
was fast company Becca Anderson, Blane Heimbach, Davey Franek and Pat
Cannon on a charge. Both Franek and Anderson dropped out of the race in
the early going, but it was Pat Cannon who started fourteenth that
everyone was watching. On lap six, Cannon powered into the lead with
Kelleher following in second. Heimbach moved into third on lap seven
with URC's Curt Michael in fourth.
Just past the halfway point of the race, Heimbach moved into second and
set his sights on the leader. Kelleher maintained third as Dave Ely and
Curt Michael made-up the top five. On lap twenty-three, the battle for
the lead was underway and just two laps later, Heimbach, with a powerful
move down the backstretch, took the lead. Once on top, Heimbach was
never challenged and in fact, he held a comfortable lead as the checker
flag fell.
Pat Cannon finished second followed by Larry Kelleher as Curt Michael
took fourth. In a last lap run, Nate Snyder passed Ely for fifth.
Making up the top ten were Phil Walter, Kyle Purks, Ken Carberry and
Mark Bitner.
