$25,000 SUMMER NATIONALS VICTORY TO DONNY SCHATZ
MECHANICSBURG, PA ? Donny Schatz continued his mastery of Williams Grove Speedway with an impressive victory in the Cleveland Brothers Summer Nationals finale Saturday night at Williams Grove Speedway.
Craig Dollansky started on the front row, went straight to the outside guardrail and powered into a commanding early lead.
Schatz, who started fourth, moved into second place on the first lap, but lost it to Joey Saldana the next time around. By lap seven Schatz took back the runnerup spot and began to chase Dollansky.
Dollansky set the pace through lapped traffic until the 20th circuit when Schatz made his move. He drove under the leader in turns one and two, but Dollansky refused to concede. Schatz made it official exiting turn four when he took over for the duration of the 30-lap test.
Schatz, 30, of Fargo, North Dakoita, earned $25,000 for his 15th career victory at Williams Grove Speedway. It was his first of 2008 here after finishing second in two previous starts at this historic half-mile.
Schatz also increased his lead in the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws point standings.
Dollansky settled for second place 2.378 seconds off the winner?s pace.
Jason Meyers, who started fifth, took third from Saldana on lap 22 and was closing on Dollansky at the finish.
Current Cindy Rowe Auto Glass point leader Fred Rahmer was the first Williams Grove regular across the line in fourth place. Saldana completed the top five.
