Fremont succombs to rains
FREMONT, Ohio - Despite efforts to get the racing in, heavy rains during
heat race action forced the cancellation of racing Saturday, July 19 on Beck
Oil Night at Fremont Speedway.
All three Fremont Fence Dirt Truck heats had been run and two of the four
Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprint heats were contested before a heavy
rain shower hit "The Track That Action Built." Fremont Speedway crews and
the dedicated push truck drivers worked on the track for some time. A
meeting with the race drivers indicated their concerns of a fast, one-lane
race track and not being able to put on a good show for the dedicated fans,
and the possibility of a soft surface getting rough, prompting the decision
to cancel the rest of the night's races.
"We tried are darnest, but the safety of our drivers and the entertainment
of our fans is our top priority and the conditions just weren't going to
guarantee that," said Fremont Speedway Co-Promoter Rich Farmer.
"We sincerely thank all those who came out and stayed during the rain delay.
Our fans are amazing and deserve an entertaining, exciting fun night of
racing and we will continue to work hard to provide that. Unfortunately,
Mother Nature had other plans," added Andy James, Co-Promoter of Fremont
Speedway.
Fans and those in the pits should hang on to their ticket stubs and wrist
bans as they will ensure admission to one of the next three regular night's
racing events - Saturday, July 26, Saturday, Aug. 2 or Saturday, Aug. 9.
