ASCS Sprints on Dirt Set for Short Track Double This Weekend

Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (July 21, 2008) – Following on the heels of this past weekend's Mid-Season Championship double, the Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by Victor Reinz are ready to take it to a pair of tight Michigan tracks this weekend.

On Friday night, the series makes it second and final stop of the season at Cherry Speedway in Fife Lake, MI. Then on Saturday night, it's off to Merritt, MI, for the series first visit of the year to Merritt Speedway.

Both events are not only critical to the season championship points race, but also both count towards the ASCS Sprints on Dirt MAHLE Clevite Short Track Challenge title.

Chasing a first series crown, Brett Mann of Goshen, IN, carries a 40-point advantage over Jerome, Michigan's Ben Rutan into the weekend, with Dain Naida (Belleville, MI), three-time series champion Tim Norman (Warsaw, IN) and Ryan Grubaugh (St. Johns, MI) rounding out the current top five in points.

With four of eight Short Track Challenge events in the books, it is virtually a three-way tie atop the point charts with Grand Ledge, MI, shoe Gregg Dalman just two points ahead of Mann and Norman, who are tied for second.

Both nights of racing action are slated to fire off at 7:30 p.m.

The semi-banked, 3/8-mile Cherry Speedway clay oval is located in Fife Lake, MI, 3.1 miles northwest of US 131 on SR 113. For more information, contact the track at 231-218-0558.

Merritt Speedway is located in Merritt, MI, ten miles west of US 27 on SR 55. For more information, contact the track at 231-328-4351.
