"Classic" Excitement Builds For Teams And Race Fans As Speedy Creek Prepares For AST Weekend
Anticipation is growing across the Canadian prairies for the return of the Alberta Sprint Tour to the province of Saskatchewan. The 2nd Annual "Prairie Dirt Classic" has expanded from it's inaugural night of racing in 2007 to two nights of high-flying action at Speedy Creek Raceway in Swift Current, SK. The Edmonton-based 360 sprint car organization's race weekend is set for August 1 & 2 and promises, once again, to be the highlight of the 2008 racing season.
With one week remaining, the Classic has 20 confirmed entries with teams from Alberta, Saskatchewan and Montana with more pending. Amongst the teams participating in the Prairie Dirt Classic will be the #91k, Fedyk Motorsports sprinter of Kyle Fedyk from Estevan who will once again represent his host province. Another driver who will be making her presence known is the #97 Attack Racing sprint of Onoway, Alberta's Jessica Lavallee . Jessica and Kyle have had a busy summer of racing, including an ambitious weekend when they both recently participated in the Mid-Canada Sprint Car Challenge at Red River Co-op Speedway in Winnipeg, followed by a 1400 km. tow directly to Edmonton, AB. to participate in the Alberta Sprint Tour's Gold Cup at Castrol Raceway. Joining the female contention will also be 2 time Sportsman Sprint Champion #17 Karalyn Miller for Miller/Beck Racing and rookie driver Jenna Chalmers in the #8 sprint for Cimmaron Racing.
Champions will not be in short supply at this year's Classic. Always a threat, 2005 AST points champion and 2005 Gold Cup winner Sean Moran will be hungry for victory lane at Speedy Creek after being narrowly edged out for the win at the 2008 Gold Cup earlier in July. The veteran racer will bring his Boychuk Racing #6m sprint car to Swift Current for the 2 night event. Past Castrol Raceway points champions will also heat up the action as the NPP Racing #7 of Wade Fleming and the DanMar Racing #11 of Marc Duperron compete for the Prairie Dirt Championship. In addition, 2006 Gold Cup winner Bill Boyce of Lethbridge, Alberta will make his presence felt and will be in the hunt for a win in the Boyce Racing #1 machine. This is but a few of the highly competitive teams that will battle for bragging rights at the Prairie Dirt Classic in 2008.
Prairie Dirt's Greg Cybulski from Winnipeg is excited about the future of sprint car racing on the prairies. "In the past five years, a bridge was being built to promote open wheel racing from Manitoba to Alberta. There is a group of ladies and gentlemen who understand and support the growth of our sport across Canada. I am honored to be associated with them and I look forward to being a part of the process for many years to come."
The "Prairie Dirt Classic" weekend in Swift Current is a celebration of sprint car racing in the heart of the Canadian Prairies. Plan to be a part of the excitement!
