Now, Back to Your Regularly Scheduled Program...
By Jim Clarke, Clarke Motorsports Communications
With the DIRTcar 358 modifieds on the road chasing the 2008 edition of the Lucas Oil Challenge, Bobby Herrington and his team received a much-deserved break in the action at Autodrome Edelweiss and Brockville Ontario Speedway. The 17 year-old racer from Elginburg, Ontario has been riding a very successful streak of late – with 3 top 5 finishes in his last 4 starts – at his Friday and Saturday night home tracks. The team had a choice of running the scheduled Lucas Oil shows at Granby and Drummondville, Quebec but with a pair of 35 lap DIRTcar features on the program for Saturday, July 26th at Brockville, they decided to give their equipment a well-earned night off instead. Bobby and his father Randy did, however take-in the show at Brockville Saturday, July 19th.
The ’08 season has been a combination of frustration and glory for the young, small block modified sophomore. His team was looking forward to a great year and hoped to build on their 2007 success. During the off-season, Herrington Motorsports added a new car – a 2008 Bicknell chassis – and acquired a Kevin Enders power plant. The new ride was freshly prepped with a graphics package designed by the driver and showcasing the support of their marketing partners Stover Bus Lines/Old Forester/Kingston Paint and Decorating /Len Corcoran Excavating/Independent Insurance and Investment Group-Marty Stover. It’s no secret. Herrington Motorsports has had good and bad nights throughout the current season, but with just 5 nights remaining where the DIRTcar small block modifieds will be the featured class at Autodrome Edelweiss – including the Lucas Oil Canadian Dirt Challenge Friday, August 1st – and only 6 358 modified shows at Brockville Ontario Speedway – including a Lucas Oil show Saturday, August 2nd, the goal is consistency.
Bobby Herrington has the ability and despite his young age, he also has the experience to get the job done. Put it all together with a team that will stop at nothing to put their young driver into victory lane and it’s certain that the #25 car will find its way to the winner’s circle before the end of the year.
