Bobby Varin Racing Updates; Third and Fifth In Last Two Fonda Outings

Posted by Tom Ames | 07/24/08

BOBBY VARIN RACING NEWS Sharon Springs, NY- Bobby Varin Racing Updates; Third and Fifth In Last Two Fonda Outingsby Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media Bobby Varin remains at the top of his racing game even though some changes in the current season have altered the direction the team was comfortable in traveling. With the weather playing havoc at both of the team's racing venues but even more so at Utica Rome, the Team is taking the rain time off to enjoy some free time off from the racing scene. The past two weeks has seen Bobby Varin only doing battle at the famed Fonda Fairgrounds where two more solid top five runs were in the offing the past two weeks. On the July 12th event at Fonda, Varin began the night by running third in his event and the run was good enough to place him in 11th starting position on the starting grid for the 30-lap feature event. The action was slamming and packed tight as all of the top guns were having troubke findingf their way into a land clearing. By lap-10 Varin was riding in 7th place and by lap-18 had only advance two more positions into fifth. The leader of the event was Craig Hanson and he was setting a blistering pace that came to an abrupt halt on lap-20 with motor woes. On the restart it was Matt DeLorenzo getting to the point and Varin began to hear a strange noise coming from the car and slowed his pace in an effort to save the car and to finish the event. DeLorenzo came across first for the checkered flag followed by Ryan Odasz. Bobby Varin hung on to third place while Dave Camara and Ronnie Johnson trailed Varin to complete the top five running order. For the July 19th event at Fonda, Bobby Varin won the first heat in an exciting run over his son Danny. The heat win set the stage for the feature event that would find Varin starting from the 10th position on the grid. The Dover Brake signature numbered 00 was a bit slow to get going and Varin had only advanced to fourth by lap-12. The car then began to develop some undetermined problems and it slowed Varin down some. Jim Davis won his first event of the year with Ryan Odasz coming in for the runnerup slot. Matt DeLoernzo was third and Ronnie Johnson came on strong in the last lap to get by Varin to finish fourth and relegating Varin to a fifth place finish in the event. A big change happened for the Danny Varin racing ventures of late. Ed Monger who had fielding the Magarus sponsored number 93 for Danny at the beginning of the year had some sponsorship fall through and decided to stop racing for the time being. This left Danny without a Fonda ride but he did have the Chuck Tibbits owned number 18 car that Danny debuted just recently. During the past weeks, Chuck Tibbits and Dover Brake owner Dave Cruickshank got together resulting in Dave also becoming the owner of the now Dover Brake numbered 18 car. The car will be campaigned at both Fonda and Utica Rome as Danny still remains in the hunt for the Rookie of the Year honors at Fonda and was ranked in the top 20 in the points chase. Danny Varin's last two Fonda starts have resulted in a heat race win in the July 12th event and that was followed later that evening by a strong 9th place run in the feature event. In the July 19th show, Danny finished second to his Dad in the heat event and suffered a flat tire early in the running of the feature event. Danny returned to the race without going a lap down and in the next few laps found the car running hot. Danny decided to go pitside with the racer rather than risk further problems later on in the season. This coming week the Varin family will return to the Fonda Speedway for the Saturday night racing action and Bobby and Danny will be again steering the Dave Cruickshank owned Dover Brake racers numbered 00 for Bobby and number 18 for Danny. The pair will continue over to Utica Rome for the Sunday night action and the ROC Modified race that had been schedule for July 23rd, was rained out and has been moved to the date of August 13th and both Varins have indicated they will be in action at the ROC event. Bobby and Danny Varin would like to thank all of their sponsors and fans for their strong support with their racing efforts and hope for continued support during the 2008 racing season. More updates will follow for the Varin Racing team efforts.
