Harrison takes advantage of Dussel mishap for Attica 410 win
ATTICA, Ohio - Santa Claus made a visit to Attica Raceway Park Friday to
celebrate Christmas in July. And it was Burgoon's David Harrison and
Swanton's Dusty Moore who received the biggest gifts, along with Sandusky's
Cory Ward and Helena's Stuart Brubaker.
Harrison took the lead on the 19th lap of the 410 sprint feature when Mike
Dussel bounced over the cushion and spun while leading. Harrison never
looked back as he recorded his fourth career Attica win on Smith Family
Frosted Foods Night.
For Moore, it was Devin Shiels' either running out of fuel or a mechanical
woe that gave him the victory coming down for the checkered flag in the
Service Drive Solutions UMP Attica Late Model feature.
Brubaker grabbed the lead by driving under D.J. Foos on the 16th lap to take
his second victory of the season in the 305 sprints.
Cory Ward held off several challenges by Art Ball to lead all 15 laps of the
dirt truck feature to record his fifth win of the season to double his
career mark at "Ohio's Finest Racing" speedplant.
"Mike Dussel had us covered. I hate it for him because he's a very good
driver," said Harrison beside his Ludwig Propane, Crown Battery backed J&J
chassis. "But hey, I've lost them like that too, so I know how he feels."
"I have to thank Dee Genzman for putting this deal together. We trashed a
car a couple of weeks ago and the crew worked hard to put this one together
and it feels just as good as the other one," added Harrison of his third win
of the season, having scored two at Fremont Speedway.
Shiels led 19 and 7/8ths laps of the 20 in the late model feature. However,
as he exited turn four coming for the checkered, his car lost power the last
few feet and Moore sped by for his first career ARP win.
"Devin had us all covered. There was no way I was going to catch him. But,
I'll take it. I said it's better to be lucky than good and we were lucky
tonight and I'm not giving the win back," joked Moore beside his WD 40,
Markey Ambulance Rental, Joe Gibbs Driven Oil backed #40.
For Brubaker, it not only was his second win at Attica, but put him in a
better position to win the track championship.
"Joe (Laugherty) and the crew had the car so good on the bottom I couldn't
screw it up," said Brubaker beside his Kylynn Inc., Brubaker Auction
Services, Gressman Powersports backed sprinter. "Tom Dussel of Kylynn gave
us this motor to run this year, so we owe him a lot.".
Ward is having a dream season, winning five of the nine dirt truck features
in addition to claiming four wins at Fremont Speedway.
"The truck was just so easy to drive. On that one yellow I pulled up to see
who was running second and when I saw it was Art (Ball) I knew I had better
not screw up or he would make me pay," said Ward beside his Budweiser,
Excuses Lounge, Lakeshore Drywall backed truck.
In the 30-lap 410 sprint feature, Dussel, in his rookie year of 410 sprint
racing, grabbed the early lead with Harrison, Jamie Miller and Byron Reed in
tow. Dussel survived three early race restarts following cautions to pull
away to a healthy advantage each time while Harrison, Miller, Reed, Greg
Wilson and Tim Shaffer staged a wicked battle behind. It was lap 18 when
disaster struck for Dussel, as he climed the banking in turn three and
jumped the cushion, spinning out.
Harrison would inherit the lead and would hold off Reed while Lee Jacobs
roared into third by lap 26. Harrison would go on to record his fourth
career Attica 410 victory with Reed, Jacobs, Wilson and 17th starter Craig
Mintz rounding out the top five.
In the 20-lap late model main, Shiels would grab the early lead while Ryan
Missler, Moore and Larry Kingseed staged a tremendous battle for second.
About half way into the feature, the race was marred by several yellows.
Each time Shiels would pull away on the restart as Moore continued to run in
second, with Missler, Curtis Deisenroth and Kingseed battling for third.
Moore dove under Shiels' powerless machine coming to the checkered for the
win. Shiels, Missler, Deisenroth and 14th starter Steve Sabo would round out
the top five.
John Bartlome took the lead at the drop of the green for the 25-lap 305
sprint feature with Dustin Dinan, D.J. Foos and Zack Kramer in tow.
Following a handful of early race yellows, Dinan would drive around the
outside of Bartlome for the lead on lap 6. Bartlome would spin the next lap
moving Foos into second and a closing Duane Zablocki into third. Foos, who
picked up his first sprint car win last week, would drive around Dinan into
the lead on the 11th circuit, with 8th starting Brubaker moving into the
runner-up position a lap later.
Brubaker would drive under Foos on the 16th lap to grabe the point and would
cruise to the win with Foos, Dinan, Zablocki and Steve Rando rounding out
the top five.
Giving Ward the pole for a feature this season makes it nearly impossible
for the competition. However, the veteran Ball moved into second on lap five
and hounded Ward the entire feature. Ward would score his 10th Attica win
over Ball, Steve Endicott, Dan Hennig and Alex Weichman.
Attica Raceway Park will conclude its Friday night racing on Fisher
Performance Night on Aug. 1 before moving to Saturdays the last three races
of the season.
