DAVE ELY MAKES LAST LAP PASS TO WIN THRILLER IN URC ACTION SATURDAY
NIGHT AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY

Dave Ely of West Lawn, PA made a last lap pass for the lead to win the
25 lap Rislone URC Sprint Series feature event on Saturday night at the
Grandview Speedway. Ely moved into second on lap twenty-three then
reeled in race leader and rookie driver David Gravel. With a run off
of turn four, Ely took the outside groove and nosed ahead of Gravel at
the finish line, scoring his third win of the season and earning $2,000
for his efforts. A large crowd was on hand and a field of thirty-one
URC sprints cars took part in the program.

Heat race victories went to Brett Schoenly, Kevin Darling and Chuck
Palmucci as Kyle Purks won the Don Ott "B" Main.

Twenty-five URC sprint cars started the feature event with Brett
Schoenly setting the pace for the first two laps. On lap three, rookie
contender David Gravel of Watertown, CT took the lead and by lap four,
Becca Anderson was in the runner-up spot chasing Gravel. A wild crash
on lap five brought out the red flag and the involved cars included
Schoenly Kevin Darling and Josh Weller. All three drivers were
contenders for the win and at the time of the accident, they were racing
third, fourth and fifth.

On the restart, Gravel continued to set the pace with Dave Ely going
into second followed Becca Anderson. On lap seven, Anderson moved back
into second with Ely third. On lap eleven, the yellow flag came out
when Gary Gollub stopped on the speedway. On the restart, Gravel ran to
hid from the rest of the field leaving Anderson and Ely to battle for
second. Curt Michael and Trevor Lewis followed in to top five..

For the balance of the race, the top five remained unchanged, that is
until lap twenty-three, when a burst of power launched Dave Ely into
second. Using the high groove, Ely kept the pedal to the floor and
quickly reeled in the leader. Using the outside lane entering turn
three, Ely set-up Gravel for the run to wire just nipping the sixteen
year old at the checker flag. For Ely, it was his third win of the
season and eleventh career URC for Ely. Gravel turned in an outstanding
run to finish second with Becca Anderson third, Curt Michael fourth and
Trevor Lewis fourth.
