Moran Victorious in Third Leg of Alltel Ohio Speedweek Series, Burns Awarded Pure Stock Victory

Moran Victorious in Third Leg of Alltel Ohio Speedweek Series, Burns Awarded Pure Stock Victory
Hartford, OH July27, 2008 Donnie Moran survived several rain delays off of the track and caught the breaks he needed on the race track to win the third leg of the Alltel Ohio Late Model Speedweek Series on Saturday, July 26th at the Sharon Speedway. In addition Greenville, PA driver Tim Burns finally overcame the bad luck that has plagued him all season to capture his first Tight-Seal Glass Block Pure Stock feature win of the year.

On an evening that saw Mother Nature delay the racing action for over four hours, Moran benefited from Billy Moyer's misfortune and survived heavy track conditions that damaged his Masterbilt machine en route to capturing the 50 lap feature event. Moran inherited the lead on a lap 44 restart when Moyer slowed with mechanical trouble. Moran also known as the "Million Dollar Man" went on to capture the victory by 0.814 of a second over Ricky Elliott of Seaford, DE. Elliott's second place finish matched his career-best WoO Late Model finish.

It was the first WoO win of the 2008 season for Moran, who also captured the IRS Late Model event at the speedway earlier this summer. Defending WoO Late Model Champion Steve Francis finished in the third spot with Shane Clanton in fourth. Clint Smith of Senoia, GA rounded out the top five.
Former DIRT Modified standout Tim McCreadie started on the outside of the front row and led the first five circuits before Moran took over on lap six. Moran lost the top spot to Moyer in lapped traffic on lap 17 and watched Clanton overtake him for second on a lap 22 restart. Clanton's miscue on lap 31 allowed Moran to slip back into the runner-up slot and position himself for another shot at Moyer. Mechanical woes sidelined Moyer on lap 44 and Moran found himself in the top spot when the green flag waved. Moran then went on to lead the final six circuits of the 50 lap feature event.

Darrell Lanigan captured the sixth spot with Matt Miller, Shannon Babb, Rick Eckert and Chub Frank completing the top ten.

Thirty-nine cars were entered in the night's competition, which was taped for later broadcast on the SPEED cable network. Jeremy Miller of Gettysburg, PA., recorded the quickest lap of the time-trial session, rounding the oval in 16.116 seconds. Heat winners were Moyer, Matt Miller, Elliott and McCreadie. The Late Model B-Mains were captured by Frank and Eckert.

An "Invert Nine" redraw would find Charlie Jasinski and Bill Hanna leading the 29 car Tight-Seal Glass Pure Stock field to the flagstand for the final event of the evening. Hanna would lead the first lap however a broken motor sidelined him as he was about to complete lap two.

New Wilmington, PA youngster Russ Byler inherited the lead and would weather several cautions, including a lap four accident that collected Brian Carothers, Shaun Fawcett, Chris Haines, Mark Sanders and five time Sharon Speedway feature winner Alan Dellinger, to take the checkered flag in what appeared to be his career first feature win. A post race inspection resulted in Byler being disqualified and the win being awarded to Greenville, PA driver Tim Burns. Burns has weathered several weeks of bad luck and hopefully the win will snap his "Bad Luck Streak". Jamie Duncan was credited with the runner-up spot with Bruce Redman, Terry Wheeler and Allan Hudzik rounding out the top five. Will Aley, Charlie Jasinski, Mike Aley, Dellinger and Matt Wagner completed the top ten.

Hudzik, Dellinger and Hooks were victorious in Pure Stock heat race action earlier in the evening.

Sharon Speedway will kick off the month of August with a "Fantastic Five" racing card featuring the Warren Harley-Davidson 410 Sprints, the Gibson-Governor Big Block Modifieds, the Tight-Seal Glass Block Pure Stocks, Tom's Sewer and Drain Service E-Mods and the Limited Sprints on Saturday, August 2nd . In addition, the "Terrific Twosome" bonus of the rained out Pure Stock and Limited Sprint feature events will kick off the evening.

A Gold Rush for the kids will be held on the front stretch prior to the evening's racing action. In addition, Guarnieri and Concept Foods will sponsor the trophies for the winners of the feature events.
