Some News from Edelweiss Speedway
Cantley, PQ – Martin Bélanger – With 8 weeks left in the schedule at Edelweiss Speedway, a few changes were done. Many important races are yet to come in the following weeks.
Addition to the schedule
Because they are coming really popular, the speedway promoter and major sponsor of the series, the Centre Sports Motorisés decided to add 2 more 4-wheeler races to the schedule. The quads will be in action on Friday September 5 and September 19.
Big events to come
Many big events are coming at Edelweiss Speedway; the Lucas Oil Canadian DIRT Challenge will stop on Friday, August 1st with a 100-lap event in the modified category. Close to $20,000 in prize money will be given out and more than 35 cars are expected. The time trials are scheduled to start at 6:30pm.
On August 15, it will be the second fundraiser night as the Canadian Cancer Society will be in the spotlight. The popular Sprint Cars of the Empire Super Sprints will be in town along with the Mohawk Race Parts and Accessories Pro-Stock Series. Gauvreau Top-Soil decided to give 100$ per Pro-Stock car in the pit to get biggest field of cars possible, to be eligible, the drivers must travel a round trip of at least 100km.
The Pro-Stock Super DIRTcar Series will make a visit on Friday, September 5 with a 100-lap feature event paying a nice $1,500 to the winner. The best drivers of the category will be in competition for that important race.
To end the season in fashion, the Empire Super Sprints will make their second visit in more than a month. Also on deck, is a special 50-lap feature race paying 600$ to the winner. This night will be held on Friday, September 19.
Championship Races
When August knocks at the door, it usually means the point`s title race is coming to an end shortly and drivers are really involved. In the modifieds, the race is really close with only 21 points separating the top 4 drivers. Laurent Ladouceur leads the way with 565 points, Pierre Dagenais is second with 553 points, Eric Gauvreau and Joel Doiron are tied for third with 544 points each and Bobby Herrington closes the top 5 with 508 points. The rookie title is also really close between Marc Therrien and Gage Morin; Therrien has only a 4-point lead over Morin.
Denis Gauvreau with 274 points seems to be alone in the Pro-Stock championship race with a good lead over Stéphane Lebrun in second with 226 points. Joey Ladouceur completes the podium with 198 points.
In the Semi-Pro class, the 2007 champion Bruno Boivin is first with 584 points over 2006 champion, Nico Leblanc who has 559 points. Brian Rochon is third with 516 points. Stéphane Carrière with 506 and Marc Lalonde with 496 points complete the top 5.
With already 6 wins to his credit, Martin Bernard is quite alone in front of the pack in the 4 cylinders championship with 602 points. He had an advantage of 56 points over Martin Lagacé. Jean-Marc Larose is third with 528 points.
Christian Pronovost is the leader in the Mod-Lite 1000 with 562 points. Dean, father of Christian, is second with 544 points and Patrick completes the family trio with 502 points. In the 600 class, Dave Bell has a comfortable lead on Wyatt Mullin and Pat Bell.
Many great races are still planned at Edelweiss Speedway in the next few weeks. The different point’s races are still very close and quite interesting. We encourage the race fans to come and see some great racing at the speedway.
