BIG DIAMOND RACEWAY ANNOUNCES NEW SPONSOR FOR 2008 COALCRACKER EVENTS…By Gary Lileck Forestville, PA – July 28, 2008 – Big Diamond Raceway, a three-eighth’s mile dirt track oval located in the Coal Region of Pennsylvania, is proud to announce a new sponsor for this season’s Coalcracker races, which are to be held on Friday August 29 and Sunday August 31.

Alpine Building and Post Supply, a retail division of Pioneer Pole Buildings Inc., is this year’s sponsor for the Coalcracker racing weekend. Alpine is located on route 183 in Schuylkill Haven PA.

Alpine, a retail division of Pioneer Pole Buildings, specializes in post frame construction building materials such as: Steel roofing, siding and trim, lumber & posts, trusses, windows and entry doors, horse stalls, garage doors, building kits, “Kreager” Concrete Pills, and sliding door hardware.

Alpine General Manager Matt Goehring recently commented, “I think this is going to be a great opportunity for Alpine to gain name recognition within the community. The coalcracker race weekend is always a fan favorite and we are all excited to be apart of it.”

The Coalcracker races became a Big Diamond Raceway tradition in 1979. 2008 marks the 28th annual version of the Labor Day Weekend spectacular. The action begins on Friday August 29 with the fifth annual Coalcracker 50 for Sportsman-Modifieds. Jordan Umbenahuer is the defending race winner. The Coalcracker 100 for 358 Modifieds takes place on Sunday August 29. Craig Von Dohren was last year’s victorious driver.

The Coalcracker for 358 Modifieds began as a 50-lap event in ’79 and was won by low budget racer Bob Emerich. The 50-lap format continued through 1994, until it was raised to 60-laps in 1995. The contest was lengthened to 100-laps in 1998, where it remains today.

The Sportsman-Modifieds held their first Coalcracker in 2003. David Van Horn Jr. was the race winner. This event draws Sportsman cars from various different speedways throughout the northeast.

Alpine Building and Post Supply has also announced that they are planning to give away t-shirts to the first 1000 fans through the gates for the Coalcracker 100. There will be additional free giveaways such as Ipods and portable DVD players, which will be given out during the evening’s course. Stay tuned for more announcements to follow as the Coalcracker approaches.
Advance entry forms for the Coalcracker events will be available at the speedway this Friday Aug 1 and also on line at www.bigdiamondraceway.com
Alpine is also a proud sponsor of: the PPB#8 Modified driven by Billy Pauch Jr., PPB#8 600 Modified driven by Matt Greene & Bryan Kelly, and #04 600 Modified steered by Jeromy Guistwite.
