Mario Clair wins the 100-lap feature race at Edelweiss Speedway
Cantley, PQ – Friday, August 1, 2008 – Martin Belanger - The Lucas Oil canadian DIRT Series was at Edelweiss Speedway with more than 39 modifieds were in the pits for the 100-lap feature race. A complete program was also on the schedule with the last race of the Gilles Masson Inc for Pro-Stock.
Mario Clair and Yan Bussière were in front of the field of 31 cars for the 100 laps modified feature race. Clair took the early lead followed by Bussière and Eric Gauvreau. Laurent Ladouceur used the inside lane to take fourth of Gauvreau on lap 5. The first caution came out for David Hébert and Pierre Dagenais who are currently 1st and third in the point’s race. Clair has a good start has he had company from Robidoux and Bussière when David Langlois brings the caution on lap 10. Clair was still in front as Robidoux was now second with a good move on Bussière and he was chasing Clair from the outside, Robidoux used the inside lane on lap 14 to take the lead when 2 cars tangled on lap 15. Robidoux got a good jump on the restart with Clair and Bussière doing battle for second. Nicolas Vaillant slowed down on lap 17 and yellow was back out. Robidoux was still in front as Alex Fortier cracked the top 5 when a multi-car tangled occurred on lap 20. Michel Chicoine and Todd Stewart went on the hook. Robidoux was still the leader as Clair tried to take back the lead but Robidoux resisted when Bussière used the outside lane to take the lead on lap 22. With 30 laps down, Bussière was now into slower cars, Robidoux and Clair were on his back bumper waiting for an error when Denis Larocque stop in the front stretch on lap 36. On the restart, Robidoux used the outside lane to take back the lead but Bussière was still with him. Nicolas Vaillant stopped in turn 4 on lap 46. Clair had a great start and regained the top spot. Dany Bilodeau and Mitch Jock were involved in a tangled on lap 49. Clair still had the top spot at the halfway point with Kayle Robidoux, Alex Fortier now in third, Yan Bussière and Laurent Ladouceur completing the top 5. Clair was building himself a comfortable lead over Robidoux when Gino Clair slowed on lap 56. Clair had another smooth start when Alex Fortier broke a wheel on lap 60. Clair had strong start over Robidoux as Laurent Ladouceur was trying to get third spot as Dagenais came on strong and was now fourth. Clair was stepping away from the field with only 25 laps to go. Bobby Herrington brought the yellow on lap 77. On the green Hébert went from seventh to third in one lap, Clair was moving away with less than 10 laps to go. Clément Therrien passed Hébert for the fourth spot on lap 93. With 5 laps to go, Clair had a 10-car advantage over Robidoux. Clair led the final laps and won the feature over Robidoux, Therrien, Hébert and Bussière completes the top 5.
Denis Gauvreau takes the lead in the 20-lap feature race, Stéphane Lebrun and Normand Lemire completes the top 3 when Lemire slides on lap 5 and this brought the caution. Gauvreau was still the leader and led 3 more laps when Ghyslain Valade stopped in the backstretch. Gauvreau built himself a good lead at the halfway point in front of Lebrun and Lemire as got back in the top 3. Lebrun goes too high; Lemire and Corey Wheeler pass him. Valade brought another caution on lap 15. Denis Gauvreau led the final laps to win his fourth feature of the year.
A great field of 17 cars were present for the 15-lap feature race in the Semi-Pro class as Daniel Guindon took the early lead when yellow came out on lap 1. Guindon kept his spot when an accident occurred on lap 2. Guindon is still the leader with Guy Regimbald in second when Alex Gagnon passes him on the third lap. Guindon and Gagnon were having a good fight as Gagnon took the lead with a move in the backstretch on lap 6. Nico Leblanc who started dead last was now in fourth with only 4 laps to go when Stéphane Carrière brought the yellow. On the restart, Nico Leblanc has a great start and his now second behind Gagnon when Régimbald brings the yellow with only 2 laps to go. Gagnon still in front, leads the final two laps to win his second feature of the year over Leblanc and Bruno Boivin.
Pat Bell takes the lead in the Mod-Lite feature race and led for two laps when he got passed buy Dean Pronovost. Pronovost took a great lead over Wyatt Mullin and Christian Pronovost. Dean led the final laps to win his sixth feature of the year over Mullin and his son Christian. Dean also won the heat race.
