Harrison, Brubaker wins 2nd straight at Attica

By Brian Liskai

ATTICA, Ohio - Two was the lucky number at Attica Raceway Park on Fisher
Performance Night, Friday, Aug. 1. Burgoon, Ohio's David Harrison scored his
second straight 410 sprint victory as did Helena, Ohio's Stuart Brubaker in
the 305 sprints. Mansfield's Wayne Maffett Jr. captured his second Attica
win in the late models as did Alex Wiechman of Oak Harbor, Ohio, in the dirt
trucks.

Harrison's win gives him four on the season as he also owns a pair of
victories at Fremont Speedway. Harrison held off Byron Reed on a lap 27
restart for his fifth career win at "Ohio's Finest Racing" speedplant.

"On that restart I knew I had a clear track and that was comforting, but you
can't relax with the competition that races here and at Fremont every week.
Bill, Jamie, Eric and everyone had this car locked down. I have to thank
Dennis Level...he built us one heck of an engine," said Harrison beside his
Genzman Racing, Crown Battery, Blaster Racing backed sprint car.

Brubaker took the lead with just four laps remaining and then held off a
last lap charge by Bryan Sebetto for his third career Attica victory.

"On the first lap I hauled it into one and it bounced around and I thought
this thing was a piece of crap. But as the fuel load burned off the car came
around and Joe Laugherty had it set up perfect," said Brubaker beside his
Kylnn Inc., Brubaker Auction Services backed #35. "On that last lap, I knew
Bryan (Sebetto) would try to drive around the outside so I made my car wide
and it took his momentum away. I know how he feels coming that close...he
did it to me a few times last year."

Maffett's 31st career Attica victory was emotional as he surpassed his late
father on the track's all-time win list for the Attica Late Models.

"Fourteen years ago, Attica and Mansfield were the only tracks that allowed
me to run a Polish victory lap with my dad's car following his death. He won
over 300 features in Ohio and for Attica to allow us to do that then...this
place has always had a special place in my heart," said Maffett beside his
Wright Choice Auto Sales, Estes Racing Engines, Rod Eddleblute Garage backed
late model.

The truck feature was another barn-burner as five trucks battled it out in
the final three laps before Wiechman scored another close win. Like his
first one, this one was again by less than a bumper.

"This is just unbelieveable. These guys in this division race you so hard
but they are so clean. I have to thank Cory Ward and his family and Brian
Arnold and his group...they help me set this truck up," said Wiechman beside
his AW Automotive, Blue Eagle Inn, Deco Crete, Lagooon Saloon backed truck.

At the drop of the green for the 30-lap 410 sprint feature, Chris Andrews
bolted into the lead with Harrison right on his rear bumper. Just five laps
into the run, Harrison was racing side by side with Andrews for the lead.
Harrison would diamond off the corner in turn four to grab the top spot on
lap 7.

Following a caution on lap 8, Harrison began to pull away while Andrews had
his hands full with Byron Reed and Jamie Miller. But, the action would grind
to a halt on lap 10 for a Travid Philo flip. On the restart Miller would
drive into second and was begin to close on Harrison.

Harrison would hit lapped traffic by lap 17, but Miller couldn't take
advantage as he retired pitside with mechanical woes. Reed fell off the pace
a bit, allowing, Andrews and Mike Dussel to close. Dussel would grave second
on lap 19, and Reed would power back to the fight on lap 21, moving around
Andrews into third. Reed would take second on lap 23 and pull close to
Harrison.

Harrison would get a break on lap 27 when the yellow flew for an Aaron
Middaugh spin. With a clear track ahead, Harrison seemed to have the race in
control the final three laps. But, Reed had other ideas, consistently
pressuring Harrison. Harrison held off Reed for the win with Dussel, Phill
Gressman and Andrews rounding out the top five.

Jody Keegan won the Fisher Performande Hard Charger Award for his run from
18th to sixth.

Rookie D.J. Foos was looking for his second career win when he jumped into
the early lead of the 25-lap 305 sprint eature. However, third starter Bryan
Sebetto would drive around him into the top spot on lap five with Dustin
Dinan and Brubaker applying the pressure. Dinan would tangle with another
machine on lap six, ending his run.

Meanwhile, Brubaker, who started seventh, moved around Foos into second on
lap 7 and stayed within striking distance of the rim-riding Sebetto. Sebetto
and Brubaker would run side by side from lap 11 through lap 21 when Brubaker
made his winning move in traffic, driving under Sebetto in turns one and two
for the lead.

A yellow on lap 22 for a Dan Hammond spin - right in front of Brubaker -
bunched up the field and gave Sebetto one last shot at Brubaker Sebetto
drove his car in hard agains the cushion in turns 3 and 4 on the last lap,
but Brubaker was smooth on the bottom for the victory. Todd Heuerman, Foos
and Mark Pridemore would round out the top five.

Bobby Clark picked up the Fisher Performance Hard Charger Award for his run
from 17th to sixth.

Justin Chance stormed into the lead at the drop of the green in the 20-lap
Service Drive Solutions UMP Attica Late Model feature. Maffett stayed right
on his bumper though and on a lap 9 restart following a caution, drove into
the lead. Meanwhile, a tremendous battle ensued for second involving,
Chance, Mike Bores, Mike Marteney, Curtis Diesenroth and Steve Sabo. Bores
would hold the runner-up position from laps 12 through 16 before
surrendering it to Diesenroth.

At the checkered flag Maffett had a two car length advantage over
Diesenroth, Bores, Chance and Jim Fleming.

Dusty Moore earned the Fisher Performance Hard Charger Award for his run
from 16th to 7th.

In the exciting 15-lap dirt truck feature, Brian Arnold jumped into the
early lead with Wiechman in tow. The battle heated up early with six trucks
in the mix for the lead. Arnold led the entire race accept the last corner,
where Wiechman drove to his outside for the checkered. Arnold, Bob Dible,
Art Ball and Steve Endicott would round out the top five.

Bob Dible earned the Fisher Performance Hard Charger Award for his run from
12th to third.

Attica Raceway Park will not be in action Friday, Aug. 8 but returns for
three consecutive Saturday night events, Aug. 16, 23 and 30 to wrap up the
2008 season.
