Dale Planck wins the fourth race of the Canadian DIRT Challenge at Cornwall Motor Speedway

Cornwall, On – Sunday, August 3, 2008 – Martin Bélanger – The Lucas Oil Canadian DIRT Series was now at Cornwall Motor Speedway to complete a week-end of 4 races in four nights. Another stellar field of 44 modifieds showed up for this 100-lap event. After 3 races in the books, David Hébert leads the point’s race over Mario Clair and Kayle Robidoux.

Mario Clair and Brian McDonald led the field of 30 cars for the 100-lap feature event. Clair took the early lead followed by McDonald and Hébert. McDonald used the top lane to pass Clair on lap 4. Joel Doiron used the same lane pass Hébert for third when Sébastien Gougeon stopped in turn 4 on lap 7. McDonald was still in front as Hébert was now second from his fourth spot on the restart. Hébert was now challenging McDonald for the lead for many laps as they got into traffic on lap 17. Hébert used the outside lane to take the lead of lap 19 while the leaders were in traffic. Dale Planck is currently the man on the move as he is now in the top 5 after starting for the 12th starting spot. Clair was now second as he passed Mcdonald and Planck also passed McDonald for third. One lap later, Planck passed Clair for second and was chasing Hébert for the lead. Planck is now on the bumper of Hébert as the first 35 laps went on quickly. Planck took the lead with a nifty move between lapped cars on lap 39. His teammate Carey Terrance has now moved up in third spot by using the same strategy.

At the halfway point, the top 5 was Dale Planck, David Hébert, Clément Therrien, Carey Terrance and Mario Clair. Planck had a complete stretch lead over Hébert as Therrien was closing in on Hébert for second with 57 laps in the book as Terrance was now back in the mix as the three cars were in a battle for second. Hébert was able to resist for a few laps when Therrien made a charge on lap 65 to take second spot but Hébert regain his spot 2 laps later as Yan Bussière made his way in the top 5. Planck lost his huge lead when Steve Bernard stopped in turn 4. The race went on for 66 green laps. Planck stayed in front when Dany Bilodeau stopped in turn 3 on lap 81. On the green, Planck still in front when caution came back on the field for Lance Willix on lap 87. Planck still in front with Terrance now in second with Hébert in third position as caution came out with only 3 laps to go for Jasmin Léveillé. The feature will go for green, white and checker. Planck showed the way when Claude Brouillard and Dominic Dufault got together. Planck led the final 2 laps to win the feature over Carey Terrance, David Hébert, Clément Therrien and Yan Bussière.

Dale Planck showed his great talent as he dominated the field when he got the lead. A great feature race with many passes all around the surface. The series will continue at Autodrome Granby on Friday, August 15. This is the makeup date for the July 18 show that was rained out.
