The Big-Block Modifieds made their triumphant return to Cayuga County Fair Speedway last Sunday night, with Matt Sheppard scoring his second victory of 2008. Sheppard passed young Big-Block rookie Mike Mahaney with just 4-laps remaining to score his 9th career win at Cayuga County . Alan Johnson managed to also slip passed Mahaney for second while Jimmy Phelps and Mike Bowman finished the front five.
Jimmy Phelps continues to lead the Big-Block Modified point standings after just five features this season. Alan Johnson sits in the runner-up spot just 6-points behind Phelps. Sheppard, Steve Paine, and Justin Haers fill the top five in the championship hunt.
Defending Sportsman Modified track champion Jeremy Pitcher used the high line to his advantage last Sunday to score win number one of 2008. Fran Hilton and AJ Kingsley checked out from the rest of the field early on, and only Pitcher could chase down the leaders. Hilton and Kingsley held onto second and third at the finish, as Sammy Reakes IV and Beth Schneider rounded out the top five.
With the win Pitcher now pulls himself into a tie with Kevin Ridley for the Sportsman championship lead with 370 points. Tom Juhl, Tim Currier, and Jim Spano are locked in a battle for 3rd through 5th.
Nick Rizzo pulled into victory lane last Sunday in the DIRTcar Street Stock finale. Rizzo now overtakes the point lead from Wayne Ellison.
Bill Werner grabbed the win in the BattleKarz division on August 3rd. Nick Werner continues to lead the standings in the no. 47 as Bill takes over the runner-up position.
