Justin Ehrhart Wins Career First Late Model Feature SSP on Saturday Night; New Faces in SSP’s Outback Track Victory Lane
Newberrytown, PA (August 9, 2008) – The popular “Picnic in the Pits” Night at the Susquehanna Speedway Park on Saturday night, August 9 provided lots of exciting racing action all evening long. Dover ’s Justin Ehrhart picked up a crowd pleasing first career Late Model feature. Carlisle ’s Carl Billet won the 20-lap make-up feature postponed from Saturday, June 28. Chad Smith of Halifax claimed his second Street Stock main event of the season. Windsor ’s Sam Rial won his season’s first Xtreme Stock Car feature. York Haven’s Daryl Sipe was victorious in the Susquehanna Recyclers Mini Van feature event. Bob Campbell of Danville dominated the PENNMAR Vintage Car feature event.
The evening began with the 20-lap Late Model make-up feature from June 28. Carl Billet took the lead on the second circuit from polesitter Jeremy Knoll. Randy Christine Jr. challenged late in the race but was unable to make the pass. Billet collected his fourth win of the season and extending his point lead with five races remaining. Christine came home second, followed by Jake Jones, Grant Adams and Jeremy Knoll.
The 20-lap Late Model night capper drew the most enthusiasm from the crowd as Justin Ehrhart grabbed the lead on the ninth lap from Denny Willey who led the first eight laps. Ehrhart went on to win the event and concluded his victory lane celebration with a “Carl Edwards” backflip from the top of his Late Model. John Moser Jr. finished second, followed by Willey. Kyle Saylor finished fourth, followed by Sam Leonard Jr. Ehrhart and Charles Potts won their qualifying heat races.
Chad Smith started fourth in the 20-lap Street Stock feature and was leading the race by the second lap. Smith took a commanding lead throughout the event and won unchallenged. However, the action behind his was hot and heavy for the entire race. When the smoke cleared, Eric Walker finished second, followed by Paul Morgan, Wes Alleman and Craig Morgan. Smith and Craig Morgan won their respective qualifying heat races.
In an event that saw three different leader many time thoughout the race, Sam Rial was eventually victorious in the 20-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature event. Mike Taft led the first two circuits with Ron Vance taking the lead on the third lap. Vance swapped the lead a few time with Rial and finally wound up with a strong third place finish. Ray Broderick finished second. Rounding out the top five was Alex Updegraff and Travis Horan. Sean Todd, Mike Zeigler Jr. and Ron Vance won the XSC qualifying heat races.
Daryl Sipe took the lead on the third lap of the 10-lap Susquehanna Recyclers Mini Van feature from early leader, Chad Gracey. Sipe went on to win his second of the season. Brian Lefebvre finished second, followed by Jeff Svendsen, Gracey and Robert Fryberger.
Bob Campbell led every of the 12-lap PENNMAR Vintage Car feature enroute to his second SSP Modified division win of the season. Jeff Gamble finished second, followed by Paul Bacchus. Fred Thompson was the first Sportsman division driver across the finish line.
Stock Car Saturday Night racing action returns on August 16, with the Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stocks, Four Cylinder Stock Cars and Women on Wheels Stock Cars. There will also be a make-up 20-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature event postponed from Saturday, June 28. Racing action begins at 7:00 p.m. Pit gates will open at 4:30 p.m. and the grandstand gates will open at 5:00 p.m.

New Faces in SSP Outback Track Victory Lane
Newberrytown, PA (August 9, 2008) The third race event for the SSP Outback Track found a few new faces in victory lane on Saturday, August 9. Class winners include Shawna Schililia (Quarter Midgets); Garrett Updike (Jr. Sportsman II Karts – Blue Plate); Kyle Moser (Jr. Sportsman II Karts – Purple Plate); John Brown (Outlaw Adult Karts) and Chase Donley (Kid Karts / Pee Wee).
Racing action at the Outback Track returns on Saturday, August 16. The pit gates will open 10:30 a.m. with a driver’s meeting at 11:45 a.m. Open practice begins at 12:00 p.m. and racing at 1:00 p.m. On Saturday, all heats will be increased to 8 laps and the features will be 15-20 laps (depending on class and entry count). Gearing the “Outback Track” to the youth, the inside is 1/10 mile with the outer perimeter measuring 1/7 mile. The turns are 75 feet wide with the straight approximately 50 feet in width.
Admission prices for the Outback Track will be $8.00 for everyone ages 8 & older; Children 7 years of age and under will be $2.00. Hand held infants are admitted free.
The classes for both the karts and quarter midgets will be developed as the summer season progresses. There will be no sanctioning body affiliation for either karts or quarter midgets, but the technical/specification rules will be very similar to the major sanctioning groups for these types of cars (W.K.A. and QMA). There will be minor changes that will be announced as the season progresses. The entry fees for each class will be $15.00 per entry and participants may enter more than one class on a raceday. Trophies will be awarded to the top three in each class. No participants will be denied racing during the summer season. SSP will make every effort to define a class for all drivers who wish to compete.
Everyone with a pit pass from the Open Practice at the Outback Track will receive the Repeat Fan Discount for that evening’s racing events. There is a $2.00 repeat fan discount for each person with a ticket stub from races during the previous week’s events completed only. Returning fans are encouraged to write their name, address and phone number on the back of the stub to be entered into special drawings during and at the end of the season for great prizes. The Repeat Fan Discount is not valid for pit pass purchases.

Wednesday Night Test & Tune Up Next at SSP on August 20
The next Wednesday Night Test & Tune session will be on August 20, 2008. It is open to any type of racecars capable of competing on the 4/10 mile oval. The cost is $12.00 per person for pit passes and a $20.00 fee for each racecar entering the pit area ($32.00 per car & driver combination). Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with open track time from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. by class. The fuel pumps fro Miller’s Racing Parts will be open from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Each session will be 6 – 8 laps per session. The grandstands are open free to the public. The main concession stand will also be open throughout the night. Each class will receive 4 to 5 rounds of 6/8 laps each or more if time permits.
