HESSTON RACERS DIES IN HIGHWAY CRASH

HUNTINGDON , PA – Hesston Speedway lost a fierce competitor and good friend early Friday morning in a highway related crash when Chris Chaney of Huntingdon, driver of the #17C Hobby Stock, was fatally injured in a one-vehicle crash.
According to the state police at Huntingdon, a pick-up truck driven by Shawn Waite went out of control at about 2:45 a.m. while traveling along River Road in Porter Township , Huntingdon County and struck several trees.
Chaney, 35, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Waite, 28, a fellow hobby stock driver who drives the #4S car and is the best friend of Chaney, was flown first to the Altoona Regional Trauma Center then transferred to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh . He suffered serious injuries, but friends and family members said he is expected to recover.
Chaney was third in the hobby stock points at Hesston Speedway and had won the feature race on June 21.
He leaves behind a lifetime companion, Jamie Torres and these children: Michael Chaneny, Lisa, Frankm Christopher and Lauren Olschewski and Jessica Torres and a granddaughter, Katilyn Rose Seville.
The Hesston Speedway family extends its prayers and sympathies to the Chaney Family and wishes the Shawn Waite a very speedy recovery.
